New Trend: Another FM Sports Station! This Time, San Francisco

KBWF-95.7 drops Country in favor of Sports as "Sports Radio 95.7 FM". They are affiliate of The Sporting News and flagship of The Oakland A's as well as simulcasts The San Jose Sharks hockey with KUFX-98.5/KUZX-102.1

Im still surprised CBS Radio SF didn't want to get the A's rights and flip Live 105 to sports. As CBS Radio SF has the rights to other sports. And KITS isn't doing hot in the ratings, lowest rated CBS owned SF station currently.

I love it when I can't watch the Bengals (don't laugh folks) or running a quick errand and the game is on in stereo on the FM dial. The sound is so much better.

Ha, yes. I have a really nice 80's style boombox too:

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Sony+-+...8015168325&skuId=8521094&st=boombox&cp=1&lp=1

It is perfect for yard work, swimming etc because it really cranks up and has great bass. Plus it is old school and plays cassettes baby, hard to even find a big box that is not mp3 driven.

I would definitely listen to the game on local radio and watch on TV but unfortunately the HD signal from Time Warner is no where close to matching the radio so it is unwatchable basically. I have not tried using my HD radio that I have at work to see if it syncs better, project for MNF tonight.

The A's rights have bounced around like a freaking super-ball. Part of that was CBS' fault (moving KFRC all over the dial) and part of that is the A's fault.

Heck, the A's were on a station last year that went into receivership!

Except for a few glory years in the Charlie Findley ownership era, green uniform days with the A's, the bay area has always been a heavy Giants baseball market.

Yeah, it does seem like that. As someone who doesn't live in the bay area, it seems to me that the Giants popularity in the Bay Area is 10 times bigger then the A's.

It kind of seems that way a little bit in the NFL as well. The Raiders, while they did spend a few years in LA, have been mostly an Oakland team, but for the most part it seems like the Niners are the bigger draw in the bay as far as football goes, at least professionally.

It makes me wonder though: the Giants have a terrific looking stadium, while the A's share a stadium with the Raiders. Meanwhile, the 49ers play Candlestick aka 3Com aka Monster Aka wind tunnel Park, a stadium they probably should have left by now.

If it were me, I would have the Niners move to a new stadium somewhere in the bay area(which it sounds like might happen in the future), and either let the Raiders play in Candlestick, or move them to LA.

Partly because it seems like LA would be the perfect place for that team. Although considering what happened before and during the Niner-Raider game last Saturday, maybe LA wouldn't want the Raiders.

As for the Oakland Athletics, maybe a new stadium in the bay area would be good for them. Something like San Jose, or Santa Clara, etc.; there's who knows how many computer millionaires in Silicon Valley that would love to spend their money on something like this as well.

Question is would the A's ownership go for it? I would hate to see the A's become like the Seattle SuperSonics and have them move to San Antonio, Virginia, or who knows where else just because the team can't get a new stadium done.

It doesn't seem like that right now, but there is a history of winning and success in Oakland, that should stay there, and not end up in Vegas or somewhere else.

The A's biggest problem, along with a lack of talent on the field and ownership that loves to play the "small market" card, is the Coliseum. Moving to a new yard in San Jose (which I don't think will happen under baseball's territorial rules) won't fix the lack of talent on the field, and if it were to happen, I don't see fans switching allegiances just because the new team is closer.

But since we're a radio board ... the A's have had a dozen "flagships," by my unofficial count, since they came out here from KC. That includes a stint on KALX as well as time on a couple of San Jose stations that couldn't be heard in the Coliseum, and basically being the only thing keeping the station going on KTRB as well as KFRC pre-Camping. During that time, the Giants have had two, KSFO and KNBR. Doesn't matter if you're on AM, FM or tin cans and fishing line, if you can't find the games, no one's gonna listen.
