The only new urban AC music I ever get to hear on local radio is on WILD's Tom Joyner Morning Show. And he doesn't play much!

I like the song "Honey" by Erykah Badu. I guess that's not very recent, but it's the newest I'm exposed to.
"Work That" by Mary J Blige is good too.

Lalah Hathaway is a good singer, haven't heard from her since the 80's, when she did "Heaven Knows How you Make Me Feel". Didn't know she was still around.

I'd say the horse has been beaten to death at this point.

What does A/C stand for? Don't say air conditioning.

Here is a solution so we can all give up the ghost.

To the handful of New Urban A/C music lovers, gather up your savings, empty your piggie banks, borrow money from your families and buy a station. Within no time you will all:

a. be homeless
b. have changed formats to something that makes money
c. family members that won't talk to you ever again because of you, THEY'RE BROKE!!

Hey 12 in a row, welcome to America in 2008. Maybe Boston survives being behind the times. Go to any other major city, NY, Philly, DC, Chicago, down south, it's the Urban ACs that are in demand and always in the top 10. You want to advertize in those cities, you make sure you buy time on an Urban AC. Times have changed, the demographics of America have changed, its just Boston that's stuck in the dark ages.

If you're talking 12+, there are NOT Urban AC's in the top 10 in LA, Dallas, Seattle or Phoenix (of the top 15 markets)...and in San Francisco the Urban AC is #10. So, the format is not in demand in EVERY major city...

Ciao, your words are true, yet they will fall on deaf ears. Boston people like being Boston people which advocates the old and decrepit as the norm, and everyone else as a problem. You will be assaulted with the excuse that urban has already been tried here, yet they will not mention that those who did try the format -- Radio One --did not have a clue about the demographics, which does not consist of southern African-Americans, but a large West Indian community, much like Hartford. The city has no soul, they are not interested in soul and if you don't like it then get out, is the prevailing wisdom. It goes to show that this city is not as progressive as the conservatives would have you believe, because of a few Gay marriages. Personally I'd like to tell those soul-less individuals to get out and let the city become progressive, but alas we are stuck with these bobble heads who shut the city down after 6pm and prefers the sounds of Air Supply and Aerosmith all day everyday.

Very true about Radio One. I've mentioned that fact before.....that the Boston black community is heavily West Indian, and how ironic that a black owned radio company couldn't figure that out. Black radio companies are not exept from my criticism.

One of the alternative papers, either the Boston Pheonix or the Big Dig, did an article on Austin's SXSW (South by Southwest) music festival last year. It had a very interesting take on why an acclaimed festival like SXSW thrives in Texas and not here in Boston. It's amazing that a liberal city like Boston with such an educated workforce manages to stiffle creativity.

Boston isn't as progressive as we'd like to think.Alternative energies are being explored big time in the West, even Texas. Yet in Massachusetts we're stopping wind farms because they block rich people's waterfront views.
