New WGHP-8 (8.2) All-Retro channel to begin on 1/1/2011

  • Thread starter GoodTimesandGreatOldies
  • Start date

I read on the site that a "3 Stooges Marathon" was kicking it off!

I have talked to may friends who say that it is not even on TW cable??? are they for real or is this just made up? I don't get WGHG here, but it sounds a little fishy to me.? :'( :-*

From WGHP's Website:

The station, branded TV8.2, will be offered as a free, over-the-air signal on digital channel 8.2, as well as on Time Warner digital channel 126. The channel will also be available on other digital cable systems in the near future, including Charter Communications digital cable channel 175 on Jan. 3 in North Wilkesboro.

Is that Gary Owens doing the announcing on 8-2?

Yep, he is indeed the imaging voice of Antenna TV.

Unfortunately, he sounds like he's 75 years old. :-[

Don't worry folks, some young whippersnapper will take his place in 3-4 years and then we won't have to watch "The Three Stooges", "Father Knows Best" and "The Monkees" anymore, instead we can watch repeats of time-tested favorites as "The Real Housewives of Madison County" and "The Simple Life: The Australian Outback"!! Plus, no more pesky movies, infomercials instead!! :D

All seriousness aside, I like this channel. Enjoy it now while it lasts...

Sir, WJW is NOT WGHP-TV 8 High Point, NC. You are looking at the Clevland, Ohio FOX 8!!!!!!!!!! That is the problem!!! I am talking about WGHP-TV 8.2 in HIGH POINT, NC. Go to www.myfox8.com and look under most viewed stories. It will tell you about WGHP-TV 8.2, NOT WJW Fox 8 from Ohio!!!!-LOL

Here we are in 2011 and things remain the same. It doesn't take much to upset our little friend does it? Happy New Year!

The new WGHP-TV 8.2 will do VERY well (as will Antenna Tv). Response so far to Antenna TV and its` lineup has been VERY poitive nationally!

Who's your reference, Gomer Pile?

I still say other than you Old Timers and TV nerds nobody cares about these subchannels. It's like the HD Radio of TV.

Its good to see stations using the new technology and at least attempting to do something. Just because you and your friends don't care for "these subchannels" doesn't mean anything. If channel 8 or any of the other stations can generate more revenue using "these subchannels" more power to them. I hope the management at the stations using "these subchannels" are a little more aware than those of us who have nothing better to do than sit in their bedrooms and be critical of those who are actually doing something and getting paid for it.

The subchannels are interesting for people like me who don't have cable. And those numbers may or may not be growing, depending on who you talk to or read. :D
They aren't interesting to the degree that some people put into them, though.

It's good to see you agree with GoodTimeGreatOldies, he's just been a plethora of tremendous information to this board.

The response to subchannels has been VERY positive nationally? Any statistics behind this? Same person who has said practically every station in this market is switching to Oldies and that there isn't a Spanish Market in the Triad. They're also really taking advantage of new technology of these new channels by broadcasting reruns of the three stooges.

Over 60% of Americans have cable television and with so many options now including the internet and all of the specialized programming the audience advertisers target isn't people who are watching Channel 8.2 with Moe, Larry, and Curly.

How much revenue could they possibly be making? I better run and hide back to my bedroom and watch these channels again. Apparently I'm missing out.

Not to agree with GTGO either, but more and more people really are cutting the cable. The cable industry is running scared at the prospect of becoming just an ISP. The OTA digital subchannels are a nice alternative for when you're tired of Netflix.
