On July 21, Big Boy from sister station Power 106 LA come to HOT 97 ( 7-10 am ) and Part-Timers Cipha Sounds and Peter Rosenberg will be on 5am to 7am weekdays. Miss Jones is GONE !

wow, will they move his whole show to NYC or similcast to NYC, I dont know about how new yorkers will feel about have a morning show where they are not the center of attention

nyers will get over it the world does not revolve around manhattan radio stations are moving to syndication not because of talent but to save money...... its the ecoomy

HOT 97 will drop in ratings. A west coast morning show on an major east coast station isn't the move. Wonder if POWER 105 has any plans to grab her?

Unless Big Boy gets up at 2AM in LA, he would have to start his morning show at 4AM instead of 5AM at KPWR to make it happen, so chances are that the show might be tape delayed or he'll go live.

You are right, Shawty.

This show has an East L.A. feel to it. Hot 97 was a great station back in the day. Now it's a piece of payola garbage. People are going RUN away from HOT during mornings. This is great news for Power 105.1.

I can't believe the number 1 market's best hip hop station will not be local in the mornings. This is scarey!

I believe a previous "Taylor on Radio-Info" newsletter noted that Big Boy's actual studio time for the show is several hours because it airs live (and has affiliates) in the Eastern and Central time zones. His ABC Radio Networks profile seems to confirm this:

If Big Boy is already up and working, servicing a new affiliate in New York won't be much of a undertaking.

You've just earned a trip to the [imaginary] pay window. Advertising buys are going soft, and so will billing.

The NAB actually loves satellite radio...it's just that they can't cash in when people decide to pay for it.

I always thought that with the history of HOT 97, at some point their morning talent would be offered via syndication to other hip-hop stations. So it is amazing to me that the original "where hip-hop lives" station is going to a syndicated show from LA. YIKES

I get holding expenses down, but unless I'm missing something, it's not like HOT is going to be airing Big Boy's show for free. Emmis doesn't syndicate the show ABC/Citadel does right?

And don't get it twisted, I think Big Boy's show is very good and he's a talented brotha but damn. Has the talent pool dried up to the point where HOT 97 could not develop or even attract strong enough talent to continue having a local morning show? YEESH!

Wasn't Jonsey Syndicated?

I'm suprised of this move too

I think BigBoy's Show may move to NY in the future if not right away.

You are so off base it's sad. Syndication is just as much about talent and ratings than anything else. Stop guessing.

This leads me to believe that. . . . .

-Jones is added to the Radio One payroll and is LIVE in Philly @ 100.3 THE BEAT, her only syndicated station.

-Clear Channel/POWER 105.1 syndiactes Jones and puts her on every CC Urban Station not airing Steve Harvey. CC never replaced Star & Buckwild with a Hip-Hop show.

nope shes coming back to philly :D

who in nyc listens to power 105 ???

They're usually neck and neck with Hot 97.

As for the new morning show, it just seems wrong for a syndicated west coast-based show to air on a major east coast station. But what do I know.

Despite how small the world is now because of the Web and syndicated broadcast, The East And West Coast Still remain night and day, Now, I know I have not been in radio that long, but this looks like a stupid move.

The puzzling move on Hot 97's part is going with a local show from 5-7am then Big Boy from7-10.

Aren't they kind of admitting that going syndicated might be a risky move?

In Philly, Big Boy's Neighborhood is on Power 99 live from LA. That's a heck of a shift going live at 3:00am.
When Power 99 picked up the show, Q-Deezy a former on air morning co-host at Power 99, who left the station and moved to LA to pursue an acting career a few weeks earlier, joined Big Boy's Neighborhood.

Maybe DJ Envy will join the show also. His role at the station is undefined at the moment.

I think this is a good move for hot97.. I think if anything they may gain are more listers.. I know when WGCI took of there top rated Morning show and put on the Steve Harvey Show from nyc.. the ratings went down a little but at the end WGCI is back to being #1
