This evening, the normally strong signal of WFKB (Frank FM 107.5) was off the air [honestly, no great loss] and I was picking up the urban sounds on WBLS in its place. Considering that the ESB in New York is about 110 or so air miles from my location in Chester County, PA - it was pretty unexpected. And, my place is on the south-facing side of a hill that trends SW to NE. So, the topography isn't even favorable for line of sight with New York. Normal dx here is from south Jersey or Delaware or (at best) Washington. Tonight is a cold, cloudy night so I doubt that there's much tropospheric enhancement going on.
Actually, I first heard it on my Eton E5 with the aerial folded! Once I extended it, WBLS was coming in quite clearly in nice stereo. My best FM catch from NYC ever from this spot. Pretty cool.
