newport tv (wsyr, wxxa, etc.) vs verizon fios

FiOS isn't in Rochester because Verizon isn't in Rochester. This was never Bell territory, don't forget...while the rest of the state's big cities were served by New York Telephone > NYNEX > Bell Atlantic > Verizon, we were served by Rochester Telephone, which was often several technological steps ahead of Ma Bell. RochTel eventually became Frontier and was swallowed by Citizens Telecom, and along the way became something of a backwater telco without the deep pockets needed for technological innovation.

Buffalo has FiOS but no Newport station; Elmira and Binghamton don't have FiOS, AFAIK.
