news at the top of the hour on the radio

I was curious to everyone:Up in the Northeast Kingdom Vt all the radio stations do the news at the top of the Hour except our college station (WWLR) which will have few new features comming this fall. Possibly a news director as well (which I am against having because every other station in the area has news and I actually have gained listeners who tune in at the top of the hour since eveyone else has news and not music)Not one station in CT or NYC or Boston has the news at the top of the hour (on the regular FM band) so why does all the stations have the news Up here? Is it FCC policy as so I told?

No, it's just a small market thing. The news is probably satellite delivered as well. Many stations in the Lakes Region of NH use to do this as well until they finally wised up and stopped during the 90's.

oh ok.I just think its the most annying thing in the world because they will cut right into the news even if your jamin out in the middle of a song (cough cough) our neighbors up the dial who are also from lyndonville

If you're still in Connecticut, WZBG-FM 97.3 (AC) of Litchfield carries CBS News on the hour. Occasionally, WDRC-FM 102.9 of Hartford will do something with news (WDRC-AM 1360 does quite often during middays in the week). Also, non-commercial WJMJ-FM 88.9 (Religious/beautiful music) of Hartford (operated by the Saint Thomas Seminary of Bloomfield, CT) carries ABC News on the hour.
