News item: WABC's Sliwa 'stunned' that most serious charge against Gotti dropped

(From the "New York Times")

Federal prosecutors made the unexpected announcement(yesterday)that they were dropping murder conspiracy charges against (41 year-old)John Gotti.
The charges, that he ordered the murders of Curtis Sliwa, a radio talk-show host, and two other men, were at the heart of the prosecutors' case.

(From the A-P)

Sliwa says he suspects the government is not pursuing the charge against John "Junior" Gotti because it's not certain the evidence would result in a conviction.
But Assistant U-S Attorney Michael McGovern says Gotti still will face a charge of conspiring to kidnap Sliwa when the case goes to trial next month.<P ID="signature">______________
