News Sounder from Don Kennedy's GN - The Georgia Network

The Georgia Radio Hall of Fame used to have audio files on their website. One of those was the "trash can" sounder that GN used for the state news at the bottom of the hour. I call it the trash can sounder because all of the news folks at the stations in my area of the state used to call it that because the final bong sounded like to trash can lids being banged together.

Anybody have a copy they can post or know where to find a copy?

NOTE: This state network is not to be confused with iHeart's GNN (formerly known as GRN).

Doesn't GNN/GRN go all the way back to Jacor?

It actually goes back way farther than that around the late 1970s to early 1980s
Does it go back to when WGST and WLTA 100 (99.7) were sisters?

Peach 94.9 and WGST 920 (and latter 640) were Jacor stations and before that Meredith had 920. Meredith flipped WGST from top 40 to news talk and let Skinny Bobby Harper go. Bobby Harper was the inspiration for Johny Fever on the WKRP tv show.

For some reason I thought Meredith had 99.7 at one point along with WGST (920). I checked with the FCC and apparently it went directly from the mom-and-pop that started it to Susquehanna in 1974 and Meredith never had 99.7. I think Tech/Board of Regents sold WGST to Meredith around this time.

94.9 was never a Susquehanna station. Bob Jones University owned it as WAVQ along with sister station WAVO (1420). They were sold to Sudbrink in the early 70's who increased the power and became "Peach." John Lauer was the GM.

I was referring to 99.7 as the Susquehanna station.

WAVQ and WKXI (94.1) became WAVO-FM and WQXI-FM respectively when the FCC dropped the rule that FM sister stations had to have the same city of license to share call letters with the AM sister.
