News Starts Monday 6 AM on 101.9 FM ?

It's 7:20 AM EST, and...

...the station is still being branded as 101.9 FM New, although I like those old-school sung jingles...

...Paul Cavalconte is your supposed morning show host, along with traffic and weather updates from Jeff McKay...

...they're still playing the same 50 or so AC songs over and over, which is getting annoying.

I think this is the first time I've heard a stunt format with a live morning show. Actually, I'm not even sure if this is stunting or not anymore. It's definitely something, that's for sure. Well played, Mr. Michaels.

Clearly this is still a stunt, as there have been no newscasts. Even most music stations have news reports in the mornings. And those liners of women talking about shoes and chocolate have continued.
The display on my HD radio shows, "101.9 FM New." Smooth jazz continues unabated on HD2.
Paul Calvalconte is pleasantly chatting about the sort of stuff that could be discussed at the office water cooler, such as yesterday's World Cup soccer match between Japan and the U.S.A.

The ID at 8:01 a.m. Still had the RXP calls followed by fm new. The topic of discussion
for the morning is Chocolate. It's being talked about very briefly between some of the songs. Still a mostly music format. No news yet just Traffic and weather. I think Randy is still playing with us. Wonder if there will be anyone on live after 10am.

I heard an old WABC type chime this morning, WKXW uses that chime too. Walter Sabo is in the house!! I haven't heard one urban song yet, it's all 90's songs like Fly, Runaround, some Bon Jovi, U2, some 80's songs. There talking about "New" but the music is old, hi!

[speculation mode=on]I think this station becomes 101.9 FM News so this 'new' is a little snippet from the name.[/speculation mode] ;)

Or we could 'spin the format wiel?
I'm thinkin tha'ts been done before. Stunting could be fun.
But DJ's in a stunt? wow Michaels, if this is one stunt, you got one hell of a stunt going.
I've never heard one with DJ's yet. But then again, the constent repeating of songs, that sounds stunt-ish. Plus the generic "Fm-New" and the women IDing leagle ID, plus there's the promo's the women are doing.
But ah. make the people wonder. Put live DJ's on. We see after 10 AM what happens.

We have to see.

Something I've noted.
The report from Jeff Mckay was weather, time, lengthy traffic report.
It sounded simular to 101.5's way of reportage.
Part of the stunt?

Anyone noticed too?
When it was automated, the "101-9 FM New" jingles were usually stepped on by the beginning of the intro.
the "New" usually had the first bar of whatever song starting to play overtop of the word "New" .
This last song here from no Doubt Just A Girl playing at 9:10 AM? No stepping on Jingles, which makes me think he's runnin in Live mode

I heard chimes a few times after the jingles .
All songs so far appear to be in Stereo again.
What Hot AC doesn't have Pink, bruno marz, etc? Or is this the Rock AC based Hot AC as aposed to the CHr bassed?
I believe there is NO DJ, and the automation has been fixed so the word "New" isn't stepped on in the jingle.

I have not heard anything like Bruno Mars, this music is as lily white as it comes? I mean not even Pink or Kesha who are white but kind of lean in the rhythmic area are being heard. I haven't heard Gaga either. This is not New York music at all, I doubt it will last.

Perhaps why it may be called a Rock-bassed Hot AC.
Or do those not exist anymore.
I thought that Shawn is right, Hot AC has become more CHR. You'd never know it by this station.
Isn't this a le Alice 104-5 WLCE (during its no 70's title version? That's how it sounds to me.
One thing I've noticed is there are not many currents.
I'm not 100% posative, but the latest song I hear on this station is All Summer long which came out in 2008 from Kid Rock. Mostly 80's and 90's bassed titles. a few 2000's sprinkled in.
This is bassed on a 2 or 3 hour listen last night, and what I've been hearing as I continue to check out the music sullection/station.

As I said in another thread, formats don't matter. Songs matter. Fitting a format is less important than fitting a demographic, and demographics don't always follow format lines. So you play the most popular songs, and adjust the mix to achieve the right demo. If they're the same songs as another station plays, who cares? As long as people like them.
