News Starts Monday 6 AM on 101.9 FM ?

If we are still in the Stunting mode it dosen't really matter what they play. I believe one caller today actually said she liked the music selection before she commented on the Chocolate topic. Will music be part of the format once they get out of the stunting mode? I remember when the talk format started at NJ 101.5 under Walt Sabo it was mostly talk on a NJ Topic with a 1 0r two song Music break in between.
the music was all tunes everyone new mostly 60's and 70's with only about 100 songs in rotation. we have heard the chime. add some reverb and we have an updated version of 101.5 New york style.

In the current music mix, there are very, very few songs newer than 2001. It kinda sounds like an updated Classic Hits station: 80s, 90s, a few songs from 2000-2001. Then again, it probably doesn't matter because this won't be the final format, at least not during the daytime during the week. I could see music on overnights and weekends.

Playing just part of a jingle (cutting it off after "New") reminds me of a situation in the 80s in Philadelphia. WCAU-FM was the higher rated Top 40 in the market. 106.1 was WZGO, also Top 40 but not as highly rated. Consultant Mike Joseph had been gone from WCAU-FM for some time. WZGO hired him. The station was already doing Top 40, but not Mike Joseph-style.

While in transition, the station had live DJs (not all would survive to the newly branded station), the station dumped its old Z-106 jingles, and in between all songs played an instrumental-only (no vocals) six-note jingle.

When the station finally launched as "WTRK, Electric 106," those six instrumental notes corresponded to the new jingle package "dou-ble-u-t-r-k".

So, it was a form of stunting with live DJS, like 101.9 is doing, and with elements that would eventually get into the real format.

Electric 106 was a huge failure, by the way. I think it lasted less than a year and then rebranded as yet another Top 40 station, Eagle 106 (which was successful).

Meanwhile in Chicago, Feder reports that WKQX will start hot AC stunting today and that Robert "Murphy in the Morning," the station's star during its 80 and early 90s AC years, will return to 101.1 tomorrow morning to work morning drive during the stunt (with sidekick Lise Dominique, who worked with Murphy in his mid-90s stint at WLS-FM, was hired previously for 101.1 and is expected to stay on with the news/talk format whenever it starts):

I kinda feel sorry for Paul Cavalconte for being forced to do this kind of show, and at the same time have gained even more respect for him since he's been handling this about as well as anybody could. I'm sure that doing a show about chocolate isn't exactly his dream radio gig, but I'm glad he managed to survive the format/ownership change.

He just went from weekends to morning drive. Why feel sorry for him?

According to R-I, that whole "chocolate" bit was an inside radio joke--very inside. Seems what Walter Sabo had worked on a format called "Chocolate Radio" that never went anywhere.

Well, I did say "kinda". I'm still glad he has a gig, and is making the best of it. Of course, it remains to be seen what role he'll have in the final format.

If you remember, he was the original PM drive-time DJ before Nik Carter came in, then he got shunted to weekends and fill in. I didn't realize until I read it here that he was with CD101.9 previously. I agree, I do feel sorry for him, he seems to have a passion for vinyl and decent music. But it's true he's lucky to still be there at all, since I thought all the on air staff from RXP was gone.

Thanks. My first thoughts, It sound like an old show, not a new one. No mentions about the 'new' station because when a station comes on air, DJ's talking a lot about the new station, yelling website addresses, emailaddresses and Twitter where you can reach them, but nothing at all this morning. So it's a live stunt, that must be clear.

I actually like the AC format on 101.9 FM New. A breath of fresh air compared to "Lite" FM. Sadly, it's just a stunt.

I wouldn't mind "101.9 Blink" since I loved 102.7 Blink in the summer of 2003. I think the "new" name is also a stunt; remember in November-December 2003, 102.7 was stunting with Christmas music as The New 102.7.

I would rather see 101.9 either become a "Pulse" or at least an "LIR". Something different than these duplicates. :-X

Paul has run the gamut of music formats, from New Wave/Modern Rock to Classical to Smooth Jazz to AAA/Alt Rock. He's definitely not pigeon-holed into one format.

My friend Dave Packer on FB said he is going there, I wish him well, but NEWS? Dave sounds more for MUSIC!!! I am just glad he will be happy, but Dave, your well loved and we will miss you. I understand, with children today, you need a full time thing!!! I worked my butt off for my family

I think the chocolate FM says "101-9 News-FM, Chocolate FM"
Not sure.
Also noticed much more relaxed processing on the airchain.
