News/Talk 1110WBT Now News1110/99.3 WBT

No more "Talk"?

It probably is still. Look at COX's KRMG, WSB, WOKV, WHIO and WDBO. Great examples of using just "news" in its branding instead of "news/talk."

Not just a positioning change, but some changes to their programming clock as well. Their local shows now run right up to the top/bottom of the hour as opposed to pre-Entercom.

It sounds like they are trying to beef up their local news presence, as well.

Is it possible that the phrase, News/Talk is taking on the same negative attribute as Oldies?

Well think about it. Most news/talk stations only air news from 5:00-9:00am. All other time is syndicated programming. But on COX's stations, you'll find other news block throughout the day like at noon or 5:00 or 6:00pm that deliver traditional news and not syndicated talk.

I think they have gone back to the News-Talk branding, rather than just News. And also, I was thinking since Entercom merged with CBS Radio they would go back to CBS News on WBT. But apparently they are still with ABC. And I believe they dropped WBTV as their local news partner down the hall and are now affiliating with WJZY FOX-46. Seems like they would have stayed with WBTV in the same building, but I guess since they are no longer co-owned it was some sort of business decision. But often you would have WBTV reporters drop by to discuss certain topics, even the weather guys. Apparently not so much anymore.

-Makes sense to go back to the branding, why they ever dropped it is beyond me. It's the same amount of talk that it was before.
-I'd bet they go back to CBS once whatever contract they have with ABC is up.
-Why drop WBTV? Unless you're hellbent on branding yourself as a conservative outlet. And regardless of political bent, why align yourself with the worst newsroom in Charlotte?
