news/talk heard on 105.9 outside of Columbia

For the last several days as I head out of Columbia through South Congaree, I have been hearing a news/talk station which I believe is WDXY 1240 out of Sumter. Did they start simulcasting onto FM? I see no records or info on radio-locator. Thanks

Neil

That's Harold's new Sumter translator W290AY operating with 250watts at 180 meters. He must have gotten permission to translate WDXY rather than an FM station.

well that translator is getting out pretty good to be getting a signal in south congaree! i'm glad for miller, it's a good idea to put news/talk on fm. i only wish columbia had news/talk on fm. thanks for the info!

What the???!? I thought the FCC was only considering allowing AMs to be rebroadcast on FM translators. Is this legal? I have to admit 105.9 will greatly enhance DXYs signal. I'd say Miller hit the jackpot with 105.9. 250 watts at over 500 feet will get out pretty good. Personally, I don't like the idea of newstalk on FM, but it is better than another "religious" translator.

The FCC in the past couple months is allowing AM's to rebroadcast on FM translators where they allege "interference." WRHI was the first station in the Carolinas to be permitted to do so.
