News/talk ratings skyrocketing due to high gas prices

Shell is a ripoff always 20 cents higher than everyone else.
I guess that depends on the area. In my area most Shell stations are in line with most other major brands in the area. Like I said before I think a lot of that depends on the distributor and certain stations who jack up their prices, which in my area is mostly Exxon.

Generally, the stations closest to Interstate highway exits have the highest prices.
In Thomasville, NC that's where they are the lowest.

If I'm not running on empty, I'll always drive into town (unless it's really out in the middle of nowhere) and get a much lower price.
I usually pass cheaper places just because I was going a certain place anyway. I will be going to Thomasville next week but the savings probably wouldn't make up for how much they've gone up since I decided I'd better fill up.

I have points I can use at BP but it's so hard to find a BP that's actually lower than everyone else. I have succeeded in doing that the past several months. I say months because I can only use points once each month. And less than 100 points is the same as zero though you do get 3 cents off per gallon. Plus once you get 100 (10 cents of per gallon), you don't get any more points until you get to 200 (20 cents off), and so on.

I do have numerous Shell gift cards, but it's a waste to earn all those BP points if I don't use them. Normally I wait until I'm close to empty but last week it was obvious I had to use the points or they wouldn't really do me any good.

Circle K has had some of the lowest prices I've seen (that was before the last increases) and I have Easy Pay which saves me 10 cents over that.

In the Knoxville TN area Weigel (which is local/regional) is going up first. The former Pilot stations are now Casey's, and some of their stations had prices quite a bit lower than everyone else, I suppose to try to draw people in.

Hot tip: If you're a AAA member, they have sensors at the pumps, so you get actual data, as opposed to crowdsourced data to Gas Buddy.

I get a big laugh out of people who search out cheaper gas (usually by 5 cents or less) then go inside and buy $20 worth of snacks or lottery tickets.

As others have also noted, I wonder if that is maybe regional?

Years ago, I'd probably agree with you, but here in the greater Jacksonville area, Shell gasoline is almost always in line with other brands, and sometimes even cheaper.

I have a Shell Rewards card and I routinely get 10 cents off per gallon from the pump price, so that means Shell is cheaper for me.

The best prices do tend to be the membership store prices, but sometimes the cost to drive to some of these locations does not result in an overall cost savings on a typical 15 gallon fill.

GasBuddy is a good price comparison tool, even if the prices are crowd reported.

The station I mentioned being $4.99 a gallon earlier was $4.09 today. Either they dropped the price or it was a mistake at Gas Buddy earlier.

One of my pet peeves in convenience stores is to get stuck behind somebody taking forever buying lottery tickets or cigarettes since they're behind the checkout counter.

Usually when they go up dramatically they later decide they overreacted.

I have taken over responsibility for making sure Wikipedia has the latest details on why oil prices are where they are. There are a lot of factors right now, and oil prices have been on a roller coaster. Normally I'm lucky to update once a week, but I've found myself doing at least daily updates. There are many factors. It's rare that someone else updates the information.

I've found most "news/talk" stations are mostly opinion and not reliable news.
They're called news/talk mostly because of the newscasts at the top and bottom of the hour, with the rest of the programs being generally opinion talk. There's also often a real news program such as America in the Morning or This Morning-America's First News.

Some people think oil will go back up but so far, here's the good short-term news.

Where I live, those stations that weren't $4.19 yet have mostly gone up to that price but no one has exceeded it.

Station closest to me was down to $4.15 today after spiking at $4.33 last week.

BTW, it's very likely that was the exact same gas that was $3.50 three weeks ago. The gas hasn't changed, nor has the cost to the station. Just the perception of the customers.

I'm not seeing anything like this but the sources I use are the "reliable" ones which might mean liberal to a conservative.

But a Trump supporter said on Facebook Biden's family and friends own the railroads which transport the oil. Corrupt politicians just want money and Joe Biden is corrupt.
