It's mainly because of California's "designer gas" and of course taxes. How can CA be $7.40 a gallon in some places and Arizona be $4.99ish.
I am talking about the average person with no luxury of writing off their gas, my friend. It is just painful to see.
I don’t disagree. But, they do firm up their political affiliations every time they pass a gas pump, or see crumbling infrastructure, or homeless folks peeing on Hollywood Blvd.
There is definitely a degradation of the quality of life in CA, particularly in the last decade. The area where I lived in Glendale was safe and almost totally crime free in 2007 when we moved there. I still get the HOA bulletins, and a week does not go by without multiple break and enters, car thefts, break-ins to the mail boxes and the like. They are talking about raising the HOA fees by about 30% to hire armed guards to patrol.I don’t disagree. But, they do firm up their political affiliations every time they pass a gas pump, or see crumbling infrastructure, or homeless folks peeing on Hollywood Blvd. The numbers are against you and gr8oldies. LOL. That part, I am kidding. I think. Let’s see how David feels on this since this is mainly about CA the last few posts.
And you thought Prescott was bad?I can't effect change... and would not know how were I to try. So I moved away. Now, we are considering leaving the state due to crime, cost of living and other factors.
I did not think Prescott was bad. It was just too small for someone used to much larger cities. The place was astoundingly beautiful, it had four seasons, and we were located on the foothill area of Thumb Butte and the view was astounding. But other than the rodeo and the art fairs, there was nothing much to do unless you were part of the "cocktail hour" circuit or a very serious hiker and outdoors person. And you thought Prescott was bad?
BigA can stay in your place in CA and cheer on Gavin before abandons the ruined state to run for president.
Jesse Ventura is another gem! Not in California, but Minnesota.Keep in mind I've lived in a lot of states under different parties and governments. Everyone promises change, and none of them can deliver. California was run by Republicans for a long time and they couldn't change much either. Remember Ronald Reagan? Arnold Schwarzenegger? Was it better then? It depends on who you follow and want to believe.
Both, but particularly Reagan as governor, were in office in different eras. For example, under Reagan immigration was controlled, schools could assimilate non-native speakers, and prosperity did the old "high tide raises all ships".Keep in mind I've lived in a lot of states under different parties and governments. Unfortunately, no governor or US president can make gas cheaper. Petroleum is priced internationally, and the US only has 5% of the world population (although we consume a lot more than 5% of world energy supplies). So much of our economy is dependent on foreign suppliers of raw materials and products that the US is far less empowered to institute change than ever before in the 200 years it has been a world power. If you want government to fix things and make things better for the voters, you won't get it by voting for the reality TV stars who're just reading from scripts and playing for the media. It will take real work to clean up streets, deal with homelessness, and make gas cheaper. It will require compromise and working with others. Sometimes working with people you disagree with. Most of these candidates don't know how to do that.
We are looking more at Mexico and Costa Rica. Nashville is culturally way to distant for our family and our lifestyle.David - move to Nashville, like the rest of the country is. It’s almost 2M now, so I think you will find plenty of people. There are also a few billion tourists at any given time. Place is pretty sane, although we are getting our issues thanks to growth.
Yet CA has over $80 billion "with a B" in surplus and is doing things like giving free health insurance to illegal immigrants and free college education to that same group. Yet when a "born in the USA" family member became unemployed and the COBRA ran out, it cost over $1,000 a month to get health insurance that had a $10,000 deductible each year.BigA can stay in your place in CA and cheer on Gavin before abandons the ruined state to run for president. Some of this is for humor purposes. Still, seriously, you cannot tax and tax and tax and rule and rule and rule a state the way CA is and then have gravel roads for interstates, trash and debris piling up and give the voters less than they can get in states with 1/4th taxes and misery.
The problem is that the radio stations and shows that talk about all this have less than zero appeal to those who voted the current state legislators into power. And there are few, if any, voices that are heard calling for longer range planning and sustainable policies.I am sad to see this. They can do better on behalf of the people in CA. As for radio conversations and all... yeah, seems like it’s gotta be 24/5 over the top. I guess listeners don’t wanna hear about a $2.00 increase in local garbage fees. I can’t tell ya how to possibly fix the aspect of radio.
But that's boring. Screaming "all Democrats are Communists" gets ratings and sellsWe are looking more at Mexico and Costa Rica. Nashville is culturally way to distant for our family and our lifestyle.

We have many more issues today, and many more groups that want singular and special treatment. For many such groups, there was no consideration or attention back in 1967 when Reagan was first elected governor of CA.
