"Newschannel 4" Reverts back to "News 4 New York"?

DISCLAIMER: BEFORE ANYONE ASKS, YES I KNOW IT'S APRIL 1ST, BUT I'M JUST GETTING THIS OUT OF THE WAY THAT THIS IS NO JOKE, REPEAT, THIS IS NOT A JOKE, NOR IS THIS SHOUTING.

I'm sure a lot of you who still watch WNBC Channel 4 know that they recently revived the "4 New York" Campaign. Well, it looks like they're going to go one step further; I was watching the Today show this morning, and I noticed that their News Ticker opened with "From the News 4 New York Newsroom..." Later in one of the News Breaks, there was a slight logo adjustment, as the "NBC 4 HD" Logo was replaced by a logo that says "4 New York" (Their "Bug" Logo, too).

Could this be the start (or Continuation) of some changes @ NBC 4? If so, they could use a change right about now. Thoughts?

I really thought this was an April Fool's Joke (despite your disclaimer)! ::)

But then I went to their website, and you're right, I can't find "NewsChannel 4" anywhere! I didn't catch the news this morning, so I can't tell you what was on-air, but it seems like you're right. The website now only has the "4 HD" logo, and the webpage title says "WNBC | New York - NBC Channel 4". Nowhere does it say "NewsChannel 4", either in text or graphics, like it used to!

I never liked the "NewsChannel 4" name. I'd be thrilled to see them go back to "4 New York". Bring back "Live at Five" with Matt Lauer and Al Roker. :D

To my knowledge, WABC is the leader; WNBC's been steadily going into a position it hadn't seen since the last years of NewsCenter4 in the late 1970's/early '80's, when it lagged behind both WCBS and WABC.

Sounds like a good idea to me. Besides providing nostalgia for geeks who harken back to the days when NBC's jingles, ad campaigns, etc. were second to none, using the fact that "4" sounds like "For" seems like a given. "News For New York" It's a winner.

Can we get the Edd Kalehoff classic theme from the 80's back too?

I'm kind of partial to the late-80's WCBS-TV "It's 2!" campaign.

New branding at WNBC-4

It's gone from 4HD to 4 New York. The station website reflects this old-yet-new ID.

As of this past weekend they still had the "Newschannel 4" logo on the front of the desk on their set.

I noticed yesterday they finally put up the new "4 New York" logo in its place.

But they still need to do something with their introductions. All the announcer says is "You're watching NBC 4 New York, this is News 4 New York." ... no mention of whether it's Today In New York, or Live At Five, or at 6, or 11. No mention of the anchors, sports, or weather personalities either. They need to do something with this, it's very awkward.

It's all very hodge-podge. I'm hoping this is just a transition period from the old to the new, and that we'll see updated graphics, music, etc. eventually.

I noticed this past September they got rid of the intros where they named the news anchors, weather guy and sports guy in the introductions..it doesn't sound right at all.

You sign up for that and go to the New York section, you can listen to all the classic packages and current packages and intros for the most part.

Bototm line, I like the return to 4 New York and News 4 New York. It makes CBS 2 the only one that has HD in their station logo.

A Couple of hypothesis' can be drawn from all of this...

1. We are Approaching May Sweeps, so it might be possible for a full-fledged identity adjustment to happen then.

...or if that's not enough time to make a full change...

2. The Summer Olympics are coming in August, and any avid viewer of NBC 4 During may/may not know that a more significant campaign launch of some sort happens somewhere around that time, specifically during the Opening Ceremonies (Remember the 3:00 "Doppler 4000" spot in '96, or the Original "4 New York" Launch during the '92 Games, and again in the 2002 winter games.).

From what I've heard, NBC 4 has about 50+ versions of the New "4 New York" spot, and they haven't even got to the bulk of them yet. So for now, (Before I start rambling "disney fanatic" style) let's just watch the period between May and August to see if there's something going on. If they already subtlely (?) re-named the newscasts & got rid of standard talent intros, I feel a bigger change is inevitable, and it's gonna happen between May and August...Yet in the words of Dennis Miller "That's just my opinion, I could be wrong".
