Nexstar To Air Primetime WGN America News

I suspect there are some viewers of each network who would disagree with you. Some folks, sadly, are unable to separate opinion from journalism.

What truly saddens me is how few resources CNN devotes to real news coverage these days. Blathering talking heads have taken the place of reporters in the field across the country and around the world.

Well if one is watching BBC World Service, Al Jazeera, PBS affiliates, NPR affiliates you might see more news coverage from these places though. It's just CNN, Fox News national edition and MSNBC are only focusing on two things the DNC Primaries and the Trump Impeachment hearing.

News nation on Nexstar is basically a ploy for Nexstar to go after Scripps Newsy and Gray's Investigate TV for viewers though. It's Basically Nexstar trying to get national relevance for their content though and they have to go after Sinclair, Scripps, Hearst and Gray for national syndicated content though for News programming.

Not gonna make much of an impact when they only have about 20 thousand people watching their stupid news nation show on wgn America.

So does this presage WGN-A's transition into a cable news station?
Perhaps they've milked long blocks of M*A*S*H* and Married with Children reruns
as far as they can take them.

Why not just bring the bulls and cubs games back to WGN America then.

I don't doubt that this could be the first step toward changing WGN America to a news network, but it it happens I hope it will be a network that isn't far left or far right, and no talking heads.

This is a farily logical business decision. Advertisers will pay a premium for news viewers. The cost of this show is pretty low. It's an extra way to monitize the content from their stations. Instead of splitting the advertising inventory with a syndicator, they can sell all of it. Even if the ratings are tiny, they will almost certainly make a bigger profit on this show than what they are currently airing in this timeslot.

So... has anyone watched the program?
I haven't because (1) I wasn't aware of it, and (2) I recently dumped cable. Cut the cord, man !!!

This post caught my eye tonight, however, as my local affiliate, NewsChannel 8 in Tampa, FL, which is owned by the network, promoed it during their local newscast.

Here is an editorial on News Nation

But Donlon didn’t challenge the president on anything. So, he failed to extract any comments that might have attracted the kind of attention the newscast badly needs. It hasn’t exactly been making Nielsen history since its debut on Sept. 1. Its ratings are a fraction of those of its cable news rivals.

That’s too bad. NewsNation is technically cable, seen in some 75 million homes. But deep down it’s broadcasting. It derives from WGN Chicago and the collective newsgathering power of Nexstar’s news producing stations scattered across 115 markets and, lest the promoters let us forget, their more than 5,000 news pros.

It’s going to take more than an occasional Big Get to get NewsNation where it wants to go.
