"Next on Most of These XXX Stations" - Last Time Networks did this?

easttxtv said:
One similar phrase I still hear from time to time:

"Check your local listings"

Usually this is when a promo airs on a cable channel about a broadcast-network show or about a show on a different cable channel....usually this practice occurs when no specific time is given for when the show will air.
And even when a specific time was given for that program, the phrase is often used for programs on a network that is not under same ownership as the network it's advertising on -- for example, a Lifetime program advertised on TLC.

Which brings another topic up, that perhaps needs its own thread. The cable networks have different standards on how they feed the time zones. Some deliver the same programming across the time zones, regardless of time. Some have eastern and western feeds. This can get confusing, even the listing brands like Titan can get it wrong from time to time, though not sure it is their fault. I would guess that about half the cable networks operate on a western/eastern feed, and the other half just let it roll.

when i was in las vegas the bill o`riley program was on a tv screen in one of the tv screens in a coffee shop or resturant in the hotel i was at at 5:40pm western time zone.8:40pm eastern time.no adjustment for the west coast in las vegas.

News channels, including CNN and Fox news, only have one feed for the entire nation; same for sports channels like ESPN. Channels with east coast / west coast feeds are generally entertainment-based channels, where programming not only not need to be timely, but can be adjusted for viewers on both coasts.

^ i was not disputing the post above my earlier post.it was just an example of how one cable network did it.i appricate your further information.

No, flashback, you are exactly right on this. Some cable nets run on their exact time, some don't. This is an interesting abberation on cable, but only relevant if you are traveling between time zones.

i didn`t stop to watch the show in the vegas resturant.i was headed to the rat pack show.i noticed the time on my watch and did the math on what time it was home in good old e.d.t. timezone.

The last I recall hearing it - specifically - was at the end of what ever sports programming ABC was airing on Saturday (PBA bowling) and Sunday (Wide World of Sports) in the early 90s:

"Now stay tuned for your local news and "World News (Saturday/Sunday)" over most of these ABC stations!" Followed by the division plug "This has been a presentation of ABC Sports...recognized around the world as the leader in sports television!"

Have I missed it, or did anyone mention what you hear repeatedly
when CBS has the late NFL doubleheader game, that "60 Minutes"
is coming up next "except on the West Coast, where it will be seen
at its regular time"?

When was the last time you heard, "It's 10:00 p.m. Do you know where your children are?"? I haven't heard that one since I myself was a kid!

Actually heard that a few weeks ago prior to the beginning of News 8 at 10 on WFAA.

And IIRC, WNYW in NYC also uses it...as does WKBW Buffalo, who say 11 o'clock instead of 10.

When was the last time the networks stopped saying

"...Next On Most of These (CBS/NBC/ABC) Stations"

The last sign of when networks shared affiliations with stations and/or shows were preempted on a local level.

Back in the 70's and much of the 80's, CBS always did that.

Way before that....and it actually came from radio

When did ABC stop saying [NAME OF SHOW] IN COLOR?

A few have offered a date on this, though I'm not sure it is clear. I would guess some networks continued this phrase even after all shows were in color, only because some local programming didn't offer color for years after. In this case, the networks would most likely continue to "brand" the color programming as a positive. I would guess the "in color" liner continued well into 1970, or perhaps even '71 even though network programming was well past this.

This thread should have been titled 'grab bag' or 'potpourri' or something, with all the other/related items that have come from it!
True, and guilty. But TV nostalgia is so much fun...
Kind of along the same lines, last week, I ate at the Elliston Place Soda Shop here in Nashville. They've been at the same location since 1939! The neon sign out in front of the place still promotes that they are "air-conditioned"!
