Monday Night Football on Sports Talk 950

Listen to all the Monday Night Football action on Sports Talk 950, starting at 8:30pm. This week, listen as the New England Patriots go to Minnesota to play the Vikings.
I was told that they would start carrying MNF in the second half of the season which is now a few weeks ago when I contacted 950 AM. That's why you didn't hear the games on 950 AM because WIP aired most of the games in the first half of the season. I would still contact WPEN 950 AM and ask will 950 AM carry the rest of the MNF schedule for this season and the Thursday and Saturday night and other NFL games during and after thanksgiving. We know via the commercial spots that they will carry the NFL playoffs but don't know if its every game or some. Nevertheless, great move by WPEN-AM to air the NFL games.

I'm sure you're happy since WPEN will be broadcasting other teams' NFL games on Mondays, but do Philadelphians really care about New England or Minnesota or some other teams?

Most likely not.

The rest of the Monday Night games will be on WPEN; no need to call the station.

Thursday and Saturday games are another story... Not sure what's going on with those...

Actually the promo spots on WPEN are not to be an indicator of anything; the station has been running "We're the new home of Monday Night Football play-by-play" promos for a month-and-a-half, yet no games until tonight (except Game One of the Week One double-header). WPEN also runs promos claiming it's "The number one station in Philadelphia". Bottom line: the station's promos are not to be taken seriously. (Even though I do personally listen to the station probably more than any other terrestrial one.)

I suspect the reason for the bizarre split of Westwood One NFL games between WIP and WPEN this year has something to do with the former station's carriage of Flyers Hockey. Now that Flyers season is underway, WIP probably didn't want to be tied up with network football coverage. Note that even though the season was already underway, there was no Flyers game last Monday night.

I'm sure you're happy since WPEN will be broadcasting other teams' NFL games on Mondays, but do Philadelphians really care about New England or Minnesota or some other teams?

Sure they do. Unlike baseball, basketball, or hockey, the NFL is now enjoying "universal market" status... In other words, the proliferation of "fantasy football" and wagering (as well as football's clearly having replaced baseball as "America's Sport") has caused average fans to follow the sport well beyond their home teams. Proof? More Philadelphians watched the lowest-rated NFL game the weekend before (Oakland vs. Arizona, two of the crappiest teams in the league this year-- and neither of them in the Eagles' division) than watched the World Series.

Radio ratings for Westwood One NFL coverage will never, ever set the world on fire. But stations can sell the heck out of it, as well as establish remotes around it (as has done WPEN). Plus, carrying NFL coverage does carry much promotional value; it does a lot to cement a perception among the core target audience about an outlet's stationality.

NO NFL Monday Night Football on WPEN 950 AM ?

Well I hate to say this but there is no game on 950 AM as of this posting. I noticed a lot of station spots, a live broadcast from ESPN radio, more commercial spots and a segment from the Morning show airing as of post time. WPEN needs to fix these problems with their tech equipment because I have been noticing problems for a long time on this station.

Game airing on WPEN now as of 9:02 PM ET

now at 9:02 PM ET the game is airing on 950 AM. Most of first quarter didn't air.

"WPEN also runs promos claiming it's "The number one station in Philadelphia".

Someone forgot to tell them the station at the TOP of the ratings list is number one, not the one at the BOTTOM. (Actually, with their logic, WFIL would be number one 18+.)

So, just because you don't care.. that means everyone else won't? Ok Hitler...

I'm Paul Walker.. and I've APprove This Message!! (lol)

You have a problem with me calling people out? I may not like something, or may not think it's a good idea but just because of that, doesn't mean I'll say it's all together a bad idea.

I can be objective unlike some people around here.
