From RadioInsight:
"Hope Media Group has announced that Christian Rhythmic “NGen Radio” will move off of 91.7 KHVU (formerly KXNG) Houston to an all-digital distribution on Monday, November 8 at which point a new, undisclosed format will launch on the FM frequency."

What's next for 91.7 and the others is anyone's guess... Probably a Christian format geared towards older listeners.

Not surprised at all. The most likely listeners for the current format of N-Gen are also the same listeners who would be most comfortable streaming radio to their phone, as we discussed in the other thread. In addition to being "digital natives", that is a pretty small niche for a mass market broadcast.

They have already tried an eclectic Christian CHR and now Christian Hip Hop on 91.7. KSBJ is a pretty down the middle Christian AC.

I still think the most obvious use of 91.7 for Hope would be a Spanish Christian music format. It would also very nicely compliment 89.3 and 91.7 covers most of the Spanish-dominant areas of the market pretty well. Hope would do a very good job with that format and would be the market leader basically out of the gate.

That's pretty much KHCB, right?

Or they might just sale the station and some of their translators that NGen was in.
Hmm, i suppose that is always a possibility, but they would be taking a huge seven figure bath.

Who would have interest and the resources to actually buy it? HPM has already bought and sold it.

They aren't going to sell it to EMF....

I really don't see them selling it.

I wonder that as well. But you also have to consider how much of the market will remain Spanish dominant into the future, or whether Houston will more resemble San Antonio where most Hispanics are English dominant. David Eduardo might have his $0.02 on the subject...?

There’s a reason KXTN was moved to HD2 and am. As many have said bilingual radio doesn’t work here in Houston.

NGEN is already announcing the upcoming changes on the air. Just heard a :60 sweeper on KHVU about moving exclusively to digital device distribution.

Wonder how early Hope Media Group will tease the new format for the "VU" stations?

Well i can tell you Tim (ex president of KSBJ ) and i talked a few times about the desire KSBJ had to reach the Hispanic audience. and said they were always open to finding a new signal to make that happen. I think it would be huge for them to make that happen. About time something happens.. the board went silent all last week.

In my opinion a 100% music based format targeting Hispanics is a great idea. Hispanic Christian Radio in Houston is church owned and limited in scope to the teachings of one church/denomination. The all music approach can unite the Hispanic market from Catholic to Charismatic and points between. It will be tricky with all the nationalities represented in Houston (if you don't know, folks from one nation typically feels they are a bit more cultured or educated than the other nations). Musically, the mainstream is a must as well as jocks speaking proper or formal Spanish.

A spanish Christian station would be good. You can only find that in Houston on translators and LPFMs.

I can tell you this, Christian radio stations and churches all listen to one genre of music. Yes they are a few regional Mexican Christian bands and a few mariachis and a few Tejano bands that play Christian music. But that genre is not very popular in the United States. So What I’m saying is if they were to make the station in Spanish, it would be slow worship songs and slow gospel songs. You were not here no Christian mariachi a Christian Regional music.

There is plenty of "contemporary Christian" music which is more than "slow worship songs".

Look at Latin Christian music - Wikipedia and take a listen to Marcos Witt or Texas' own Jaci Velasquez as examplea. This is really AC music with Christian themes, and is nearly universal.

I’m saying you won’t hear singers like Grupo Juda, Mariachi Manantial De Salvación, Funky, Giovani Rios ect, you won’t listen to Christian Reggaeton, Christian mariachi, Christian Banda, Christian Norteño, ect ect. you will listen to Marcos witt, Adrian Romero, Rojo, Miel San Marcos ect
