I don't get the gag...is this not a respectable gig? This is a legit question from an inquiring mind. I would have thought that something like this would lend legitimacy to one's career. How can you tell your show biz career is getting close to crashing on the rocks? Your agent calls with a hosting gig. Only problem, it's the Marconi Awards...

I am well aware that the Marconi Award is for radio, a medium which, to this day, is extremely important to me. I've often said that the national celebrity that has had the greatest influence on my life is the late great Casey Kasem. My opinion was based on what is popular today; not intended to attack your personal tastes or idols. I have no clue what those are, nor do I care.I am well aware that the Marconi Award is for radio, a medium which, to this day, is extremely important to me. That was my point. If I'm an even former B-celebrity/host, being offered to host a lesser known awards show, it would make me concerned about my career trajectory.I contend that the Grammy, Emmy and CMA don't compare with the Marconi.
I never said the radio industry is dying, but look around. Radio is no longer the only game in town. Many Gen-Z know radio exists, but they live on their phones. That's just the way things are.I may not be able to sing, act or dance, but I can sure as hell talk, which is more than some of the people who win those awards demonstrate when they are on stage accepting their statues. I get that our industry is dying, Kelly A. Please try to support, and not belittle, what's left of it.
Not to my knowledge, but after hosting the Marconi awards it's all downhill from there.Remind me, has Cannon yet done the showbiz faded star trifecta of Dancing With the Stars, The Masked Singer and Big Brother or similar "reality" show? 'Cause that's when you know it's really over.
I'm saying that the Marconi, while lesser known to the masses, possibly has greater value to the people who frequent this board. That was my point. If I'm an even former B-celebrity/host, being offered to host a lesser known awards show, it would make me concerned about my career trajectory.
The Marconis are not tailored for Gen-Xer's. This show is for us, by us...the young people have their interests, we have ours.I never said the radio industry is dying, but look around. Great, then I'm sure you and some on this board will enjoy Nick's hosting.I'm saying that the Marconi, while lesser known to the masses, possibly has greater value to the people who frequent this board.
That's was my point. Of awards shows; Marconi Awards are right up there with the National Dairy Farm Excellence Awards. At least some 4H kids would be interested in that. The Marconis are not tailored for Gen-Xer's.
By us, I assume you mean radio nerds. This show is for us, by us...the young people have their interests, we have ours.
Yes, that's exactly right Kelly A! Just for shiggles, who might be a more appropriate host?Great, then I'm sure you and some on this board will enjoy Nick's hosting.
