Nick Cannon To Host Marconi Awards Dinner At NAB Show New York

How can you tell your show biz career is getting close to crashing on the rocks? Your agent calls with a hosting gig. Only problem, it's the Marconi Awards...
I don't get the gag...is this not a respectable gig? This is a legit question from an inquiring mind. I would have thought that something like this would lend legitimacy to one's career.

Well Nick Cannon has a show for KPWR Los Angeles and Nationwide for Skyview Networks.

Compared with say; the Grammy, Emmy, Tony, Country Music, or even the MTV Music-Awards? The Marconi award(s) is for radio.

Remind me, has Cannon yet done the showbiz faded star trifecta of Dancing With the Stars, The Masked Singer and Big Brother or similar "reality" show? 'Cause that's when you know it's really over.

I am well aware that the Marconi Award is for radio, a medium which, to this day, is extremely important to me. I've often said that the national celebrity that has had the greatest influence on my life is the late great Casey Kasem. His articulate and concise delivery style continues to guide me even at this stage in my career.

I contend that the Grammy, Emmy and CMA don't compare with the Marconi. I may not be able to sing, act or dance, but I can sure as hell talk, which is more than some of the people who win those awards demonstrate when they are on stage accepting their statues. I get that our industry is dying, Kelly A. Please try to support, and not belittle, what's left of it.

My opinion was based on what is popular today; not intended to attack your personal tastes or idols. I have no clue what those are, nor do I care.

That was my point. If I'm an even former B-celebrity/host, being offered to host a lesser known awards show, it would make me concerned about my career trajectory.

I never said the radio industry is dying, but look around. Radio is no longer the only game in town. Many Gen-Z know radio exists, but they live on their phones. That's just the way things are.

Not to my knowledge, but after hosting the Marconi awards it's all downhill from there.

I'm saying that the Marconi, while lesser known to the masses, possibly has greater value to the people who frequent this board.

The Marconis are not tailored for Gen-Xer's. This show is for us, by us...the young people have their interests, we have ours.

Great, then I'm sure you and some on this board will enjoy Nick's hosting.

That's was my point. Of awards shows; Marconi Awards are right up there with the National Dairy Farm Excellence Awards. At least some 4H kids would be interested in that.

By us, I assume you mean radio nerds.

Yes, that's exactly right Kelly A! Just for shiggles, who might be a more appropriate host?

By us, I assume you mean radio nerds.

Again, exactly right! From what I have gathered from my time on this board, not all, but many of the participants are older people who enjoying sharing stories about DXing AM stations from faraway places, listening to music on vinyl, sharing television listings and cable line ups from years past, and passing along the obituaries of our fallen comrades. We've got a nice little bunch here and I'm glad to have people like you Kelly A, with whom to share my musings and observations. Cheers mate!!

So you also know to never, ever play an uptempo record going into a @#$%#$ing DEATH DEDICATION! :giggle:
