Nielsen Will Begin Measuring TV Watching in Bars, Gyms, Hotels…

In TV, it has to be 5 CONSECUTIVE MINUTE of viewing within the quarter hour. Out-of-home viewing could actually help some ratings, since most bars, gyms and restaurants don't make the remote easily accessible.

But that is the rule for metered and diary measurement. I wonder if in the PPM they will adopt the same criteria as radio, as many TV shows are hard to encode due to low-volume passages and pauses in dialogue. 5 minutes with a meter is just a measure of what the tuned-to channel is; with PPM it has to detect audio and "discover" the tags.
