Nikki Haley and Ron DeSantis political ads on WBZ

Every night during Jeopardy, which airs on WBZ, there is at least one political advertisement for Nikki Haley or Ron DeSantis. Last I checked, Nikki Haley is the governor of South Carolina, and Ron DeSantis is the governor of Florida.

So why are these ads airing in Massachusetts, a very democratic and liberal state?

Sometimes they even air during New England Patriots games! It's SO ****ING IRRITATING!!!!!!!!!!

WBZ covers part of New Hampshire. Both of them are running for president, and New Hampshire is an important state in that process.

Ms. Haley is not currently in any office. She is former governor of South Carolina, having served her term limit.

1.) Because there will be a primary coming up for Republicans in Massachusetts sometime down the road.

2.) If you want to reach Southern NH voters, you buy spots on Boston TV.

People forget just how red New Hampshire is once you get north of Concord. Claremont and Newport might as well be in Tennessee.

It's not an easy thing to know. When you watch a syndicated TV show like Jeopardy, some of the ads are local (they're obvious) and some are national. It's hard to know if the Haley & DeSantis ads are bought specifically for the market, or part of a national ad campaign.

Haley & DeSantis are currently tied at 14% in national polls behind Trump. Right now, Trump is eating up so much of the bandwidth due to free news coverage of his trials that anyone else gets completely lost. The feeling may be that if they don't start building word of mouth now, there will be no race left when the actual primaries happen. There is a third Republican debate next week on NBC, so the campaign has alrady begun.

Because the Boston TV designated market area includes 7 counties in New Hampshire, including the 3 most populous. So ad buys in Boston include those, which are important for political races.

Now WCVB is showing countless Nikki Haley commercials! AUUGH!!!!! Does Ch. 5 even get any viewership in NH when there's an in-state affiliate, WMUR?

Free air time was exactly what got Trump elected in 2016. His campaign was largely covered as an entertainment story.

Here in Tennessee, we will regularly see and hear Kentucky and even occasional Virginia political ads (one or two counties in southwest Virginia are still in the Knoxville market).

Never have payed attention to the simple minded Haley stuff but she has run a early-starting (long) highly funded campaign. Boston media is not cheap. She must be an expert fund-raiser.
