LIVE TELEVISION BROADCAST GIVES NEW JERSEY LOTTERY PLAYERS EVEN MORE WAYS TO WATCH THE WINNING NUMBER DRAWINGS.

TRENTON – (Dec. 26, 2012) – The New Jersey Lottery announced that it will begin airing its live evening game draws on CBS-owned television stations, daily, beginning Jan. 1, 2013 at 7:57 pm. The daily drawing will air on CBS-owned stations WLNY-TV 10/55 in New York and The CW Philly 57(WPSG-TV). Viewers are asked to check their local cable listings for channel numbers. Carole Hedinger, Executive Director of the Lottery says, “ Lottery management is always looking for ways to improve the playing experience for its customers. With this in mind, we are excited to bring the live daily evening drawings to television. Recognizing that consumers today access information in a variety of ways, providing a television outlet adds to our already established Internet and mobile broadcast options.” While the evening draw will be aired daily on WLNY and The CW Philly, the midday draw will remain exclusively as a live-streaming video available on the NJLottery.net website and Facebook. Foster Krupa, Marketing Director for the Lottery added, “Bringing the live Lottery drawing to TV responds to players' needs and makes the winning numbers selection even more accessible wherever and however they want.”

The live broadcast will feature the winning number drawings for Pick-3, Pick-4, Jersey Cash 5 and Pick-6 Lotto with a recap display of the winning numbers immediately following for easy viewing. Mega Millions and Powerball drawings will continue to be broadcast on their respective TV stations.

“The Lottery is dedicated to serving all of its customers,” remarked Hedinger, “Many of our playing fans who don't have computers or Internet access can now tune in to WLNY and The CW Philly for the live daily drawings. The Lottery also provides its daily draw results for Apple and Android devices through its mobile App.”

The Lottery drawings can be seen in real-time on the Internet and are also archived for future viewing. They can be found using the links available on the NJLottery.net website.

WLNY I don't think is carried in all counties of North Jersey, over the air and cable. Why they couldn't make a deal with WCBS, since it covers all of northern New Jersey?

Most cable companies in north Jersey have WLNY. But oddly enough it's not carried in places like Hoboken, Jersey City and Newark.

We do not have it in my town, but the next town over does -- both Cablevision systems.
Maybe it goes back to before they were all under Cablevision ownership -- but I don't know why WLNY-TV isn't must carry in the entire NY market.

It goes back to the early, WLIG days of channel 55 in the mid-1980s. WLIG was about a year old and still working to get on cable systems on the Island when Cablevision launched News 12 in 1986. As WLIG had a news department, Cablevision considered 55 to be competition (their official excuse was that WLIG competed with other stations they carried) and intentionally kept them off as long as they could -- until must-carry rules went into effect. Of course a quarter-century ago, Cablevision did not cover all of Long Island as they do now, and weren't yet in NYC.

My cable system Comcast of Central New Jersey serves both Mercer and Middelsex counties. In Middlesex county (NYC DMA ) they added WLNY in both SD & HDin August a few days before they added the major Philadelphia Local channels in HD (Part of the same "upgrade") This was also true on systems in Ocean and Hunterdon, Somerset, And Monmouth Counties most if not all of the North Jersey systems already had it.in Mercer (Philly DMA) they aded the Major NYC stations in HD in the same upgrade but without WLNY. Cabevision as far as I know sill does not carry WLNY in Monmouth or Ocean counties so i suspect it may have been part of some deal between Comcast and CBS to fill in the gaps in the NYC DMA and not a must carry request.

Comcast in Northwest Jersey, has both in their basic service, along with all the NYC, Hudson Valley, Lehigh Valley, and several other Philly TV stations.

Only WLIW 21 from Long Island is missing of all the NYC full power TV stations.

We get both CBS duopolies WCBS(2/802)/WLNY(10/810) & KYW(256/903)/WPSG (254/911) all in HD here on Comcast of central New Jersey in southern Middlesex County it i all the on the Toms River, The LBI Systems in Ocean County and the Lambertville System in Huterdon county. On Comcast of Central NJ II in parts of Somerset county where WLNY on is 28 in SD instead of 10 (still on 810 in HD) they get WPSG SD on 17 but not KYW. Comcast of Northwest Jersey get KYW in SD on 256 but not WPSG. On the Brick system in Ocean county they get KYW on 256/903 but don't get WPSG.

I think it's by tradition. Warren County is part of the Allentown Bethlehem MSA, where most of that MSA is part of the Philly DMA. Hunterdon is also so close to Mercer County.

It seems like Comcast and Cablevision for the most part are keeping signals and not dropping out of market signals, as in dropping Philly signals off of Monmouth and Middlesex Counties, in favor of WLNY.

However, Fios which launched service in Ocean County, only carries WPVI 6 from Philly! That's seems like a shortchange. If any county in the NY DMA, Ocean seems the geographic closest to Philly and South Jersey.

As of last August think Comcast carries WLNY on all of it's system in the New York DMA form Ocean county up on 10 in /810 (SD in 28 on the Somerset system) Cablevison has systems in both Monmouth/Ocean and parts of North Jersey that still don't carry WLNY.

Back in the days before cable and satellite, TV viewers in Hunterdon, Warren, and probably parts of Sussex, found it much easier to receive the Philly TV stations that came up the Delaware River Valley, than to receive the NYC signals that were often blocked by mountains to the east. That's why you would, surprisingly, find fans of Philadelphia sports teams in those areas. They connected with the teams they could watch on TV.

Those preferences still exist, and along with the fact that those NJ counties are also part of the Lehigh Valley market, WFMZ-TV news covers Warren County news and traffic, it makes sense from a couple of perspectives to include the Philly channels on local cable.

However, the Philly channels are SD, and when watching network shows most cable viewers will watch the NYC feed which is in HD.
