No Browns on radio in Dayton for 2013 season

The radio broadcast from WKNR is being streamed via the Browns' website. There is very little delay from what I see on TV and the streaming audio. Browns just won, 27-19.
Being a big Browns fan, I was highly frustrated having to scramble around the dial trying to find an affiliate tonight. I ended up just settling for static on 95.5 out of Lancaster. I actually could pick it up well into Beavercreek once I hopped on 675. After stopping in Franklin, heading back down 75 to Troy, I could pick it up once I got around the 70 split but VERY fuzzy. I'll have to try 850 or 94.3 out of Celina. Someone here really needs to jump on picking them up before the season starts or I'm going to lose my mind. VERY fortunate to have gotten the preseason game tonight on WHIO 7. I remember them running the games during preseason before, but that might have been because Cincinnati wasn't playing. The Bengals were on ESPN tonight so maybe that's why we got them on WHIO. Mainline or Cox.... livin' on a prayer!
During the Browns' Thursday night telecast, WHIO-TV, Channel 7, was listed as one of the TV outlets who is carrying their pre-season games this season. As such, Channel 7 appears the place to watch them, at least for the pre-season. I believe Bengals' pre-season games (when they're not on ESPN) in Dayton are shown on WRGT, Channel 45.
While I'm glad the Browns' radio play-by-play is available via their website, it is very important that a Southwestern Ohio radio station become a member of their radio network. Yesterday, I thought back and as far back as I can remember, there has been a station in this area who carried them. The only hitch was when WHIO Radio, 1290-AM, was on their network in the 1971-1977 period. During that time, that station also carried the Reds' games and gave them priority over the Browns. This, of course, was during the time of the Big Red Machine and the Reds were usually in the post-season. As such, the Browns were not heard on WHIO Radio until very late October. By 1978, an AM station in Covington, Ky. started airing them and then an FM outlet in Oxford, Ohio and then, finally, WONE in Dayton.
What station(s) in this area might be contacted about getting the games? How about who heads up the new PNC Cleveland Browns Radio Network? The pre-season is one thing, but when the regular season gets underway........

There are some old-guard Browns fans left in Cincinnati. Here in Columbus, Reds/Browns might be the most common "inter-city" pro sports fandom combination.
I am shocked no one picked up the games down there. What better do 95.7/1290 have to air on Sunday afternoons (if no UD basketball)? Even put them on 95.3, despite the weak signal. It's better than nothing and serves the bulk of the Miami Valley where no other affiliate would be all that listenable.
If the Steelers can get on the radio in Columbus, and stay here for six years and counting, there is absolutely no reason the Browns can't be on in Dayton.

I'm aware of that. Just think it's odd that a Cleveland Browns fan would use the handle "Cincinnati Kid." That's all. My Dad was a Browns fan until the Bengals came into town in 1968. Then he switched his support to the local team since he's from this area and not northeast Ohio.

Keys2 - Actually, I'm somewhat surprised that no one has mentioned this before, but let me note that I've followed the Browns since 1954. Some may not know that before Cincinnati had the Bengals, the Browns games were shown on TV and heard on radio here and the Enquirer used to staff their games. They were basically the team most from this area followed and I'm just not one to change allegiances. I am a fan of the Reds and Bearcats and that also began in 1954. My "handle" actually began many years ago on another website and I carried it along when I began here. I also use "CincyKid" and "Cincy Guy" on a couple of others. Please understand that I'm not one of those who roots against the Bengals, Xavier, etc. except when they are directly meeting the team I am a fan of. That's a basic explanation.

I don't agree with that. Maybe the Reds are favored in the outlying areas, but in metro Columbus the loyalties are going to be mostly Browns/Indians. Columbus has gained 600,000 people since 1980 and a large chunk of them come from NE Ohio - that's one big reason, IMO.
Besides, Cleveland likes our teams so I don't mind reciprocating. Cincinnati doesn't care for Ohio State, so why should I care about anything they have down there?
If you want to think that, you can. I've lived here my entire life (35 years) except for college. You can care about whatever you want. Yes, all the Clevelanders who don't move back do tip the scales. Neither I nor anyone else is asking you to care about Cincinnati teams if you don't want to.
The bottom line is this is historically a Reds and Browns town, with the Indians a close second in baseball and the Bengals a little more distant second. And if people root for different cities in MLB and NFL, more often than not, Reds/Browns will be the combination.

WING also carries the Reds so I wonder which team will be given priority on Sunday afternoons during the baseball season? WING does not have the daytime signal in Greater Cincinnati that WONE (who previously carried the Browns) does, but it's a step in the right direction. A Southwestern Ohio station (Cincinnati, Dayton, Oxford, etc.) has been on the Browns Network all during the team's history.

Maybe, and this is wishful thinking, Mainline could put the Browns on Fly when there's a Reds conflict. 1590 WAKR in Akron carries Browns and Indians, and if there's a conflict, the Browns will be carried on 97.5 WONE. At least it was like that last time I was up there.

You're right there is nothing on their website as of yet. I did tweet with the PD of 1410 Mark Neal about the Browns and he had this to say:
We are trying to make sure it doesn't go away, because it was going to..we just have some prior commitments that interfere some.
When I asked when there first broadcast for the Browns would be he said this:
We aren't sure, we wouldn't miss much though...we were not going to let the browns leave town though, regardless

Well, I have 15 years on you and the only time the Reds had a huge following in Columbus was during the Crosley Broadcasting era due to the Big Red Machine and the fact that all the games were simulcast on Channel 4 as Crosley/Avco network programming. Not too many years after WLWC was sold to Outlet Broadcasting, the games got yanked ultimately ending up on WTTE.
The Reds are probably the more popular team in Circleville, Zanesville and Chillicothe. but Columbus, Delaware and Lancaster are Indians cities ... The Indians are on WLOH not the Reds. Newark, I don't know ....
Furthermore you see lots of people wearing Indians gear. When was the las time you saw anybody around here who wasn't an old geezer wearing a Reds hat or T-shirt?
I'm not a baseball fan so I don't really care. But what I see around here are mostly Indians fans.
@schmave - Here's a.1998 article from the Enquirer saying the same thing. Granted, it was 15 years ago when Cleveland was at its best, nevertheless I still think it rings true.

"It used to be the Indians fans who were in the closet, not very vocal. Now, it's 180 degrees opposite. We don't hear much from Reds fans here."

I'm not interested in carrying on a fight that continues to take this thread farther afield from the original point. I know what I know, and you know what you know. But you cannot be serious trying to tell me that comparison from the late 1990s still rings true. Back then, the Indians were *the* thing so everyone was jumping on their bandwagon. "Lifelong" Indians fans were popping up everywhere. Channels 4 and 6 jumped on the hot commodity and showed all those postseason games because the Indians were finally contenders after 40 years. That was their choice, and given the Baseball Network situation everyone hated it was tough to blame them even though it was a slap in the face to Reds fans. They were hamstrung as to carry one team over the other.
Where are those people now? Certainly not at Progressive Field, where they ought to be as the Indians fight for the postseason.
Ask WTTE why they prefer to carry Reds games over the Indians whenever they have the choice. Same for WBNS with the Browns, for the most part.

I spoke to Mark Neal of WING this morning. He advised the station is waiting on a contract from the Browns, but seems confident things will be worked out. He did note that if there are conflicts from Reds games this season, WING would air the Reds because of already-made agreements. He pointed out that the Browns' opening game with Miami on September 8 could be carried since the Reds' game with L.A. on that date will be at night ("Sunday Night Baseball"). Mark showed a real understanding of having the Browns radio coverage continue in this area.
