No Flip AND 100.3 WNOX Now promoting new TALK morning show on FM!

So what does all the legal wrangling exactly mean for the sale? If Pirkle is held liable for that 15 odd million, is the sale reversed and the station handed over to Dick Broadcasting as part of the debt? Seems the sale would simply go through to Journal & Dick would get the cash if Pirkle was held liable. Who knows. I'm certainly not one who has any understanding of this legal mumbojumbo. I just wish it'd get settled and Journal would get it.

It's SO difficult to refrain from speculation and hearsay on a forum like this isn't it? It seems apparent that Journal is a seasoned operator going into a deal with the full knowledge that Oak Ridge FM has a track record of problematic deals.

It is hard to find details on M&M's suit, therefore it's difficult to estimate. Depending on who did what, and how that comes out in depositions, that one may be $2 million or more.

Dick Broadcasting is fresh off of a favorable state supreme court opinion. A lower court judge would be hard pressed to go against that. It is $10 million in actual damages plus litigation costs and twelve years of interest. It is unlikely Oak Ridge FM will be able to get out of this one.

If you were sitting in Milwaukee and looking at a $6 million dollar transaction with a company that's already facing a $15 million headache would you roll the dice so you can meet an arbitrary date? Or would you ask your Knoxville employees for their patience, be diligent and make sure you have a clean sale?
Journal in my opinion has always been a top-notch company, with all that said, why would you promote a frequency flip by sending out a press release? Request a waiver for simulcast with a government agency, namely the F.C.C.? Make Ad buys? Let WBIR TV show you installing your new signage and get your studio and engineering such as audio chain and STL in place, if you had any question the sale would not go through?

Most Importantly why would you enter into a sales agreement with a broadcaster with the history Of Oak Ridge FM, if in the end it was all gonna blow up in your face? Not to mention the cost of all the questions above. Why would you take that gamble?

Clearly something is very amiss here! Journal has there reputation on the line here, this doesn't look good for them at all, looks even worse for Pirkle!

Knowing the situation I can't imagine anyone with any brains at all would have gotten wrapped up in this!

It could be as simple as a back-ordered $1.29 transmitter part.

I am not a lawyer but:

why didn't JP LMA 100.3. He would not really big bucks that Dick / Citadel paid, but I could live off of $30, 000K + a month. Then there would be no sale and The Dick's lawsuit would be just a piece of paper with a large legal bill attached. Another way to get around the Dick's would be to offer the station to them at the sale price. Call their bluff. Would they really want to pony up Cash? Then sell it and not make any $$$.

That's what I don't understand. If Pirkle knew about this contract & restriction, why didnt he just offer the station to Dick first at the same price? Why would he care who bought it as long as he got paid? Instead, he'd rather face a huge lawsuit by choosing who to sell to. Doesn't make any logical sense to me. (But then again, I've never gotten much sense out of any of his decisions about his stations). Complain about corporate owners if you want, but I'll be glad when 100.3 is finally sold and these shenanigans are over.

I am hearing 100.3 on my radio and they are indeed stunting with different formats. As a matter of fact, it is a Wheel of Formats type of stunt. It is making me wonder what will happen next Thursday morning. We'll soon see.

Let me add something: WKVL went to a talk format and is currently broadcasting "The Drive". You can hear it at http://tunein.com/radio/WNOX-1003-s21712/.

Okay, will the real "stunt" please stand up? Is the earlier reporting that Q-93 (complete with FCC waiver request regarding program duplication) will migrate to 100.3 a stunt or is the current "stunting" the real stunt? And what's the significance of next Thursday, according to KnoxvilleTVFan?

Opie Joe's Twitter account also plugged the changeover; see https://twitter.com/Q93OpieJoe/status/330416749625356289.

Does anyone know if the @Q93Country handle that he has in his profile was valid before? Right now, it appears to be gone/invalid/dead. If that's indeed the case, then it looks like Journal may have already changed/moved the account (or deleted it) in order to prepare for a move of the format to 100.3.

(Updated because the Twitter account for the former WNOX has indeed been changed to @850talk.)

I am in Knoxville and love the new format with the variety of music etc. on the new WNOX. I have not heard a single commercial spot yet though.

Really, a whole week of stunting? ::) Seems a bit much after this hiccup and delay. Maybe over the weekend would make sense, but an entire week just kind of gets to the point where people give up caring. I'm wondering if the "Thursday at 9am" wasn't intended to have been yesterday before the delay in the sale closing. Oh well, I guess the production was done & they'll just stick with it till the next Thurs. Who knows? Anyway, stunting can be helpful in drawing attention and interest, but when it goes on for too long, you run the risk of people getting tired of it and no longer caring.

Who says there was a delay in closing? Most station sales take place and close on Friday afternoon after the stock market closes.

Technical/tower issues are the reasons for the delay

Getting them fixed now.

What's this I'm hearing? I am now hearing classic country on 100.3.

To update: WNOX is back on stunt mode as of right now. I wish there was a way for us to listen to WNOX-FM online. Now that would be aircheck worthy right there.

Wow. I got in my car just after midnight, tuned to 100.3, heard great classic country and liners for "Knoxville's home for classic country, AM 1040 WKTI." I'm guessing that was not part of the stunt! But it was nice to hear WKTI resurrected again, even if it was only for about 30 minutes. It's also very interesting to know that the old format still survives on a hard drive somewhere in the Journal building.

If the engineers are reading this, the processing on 100.3 sounds outstanding. It's too bad this frequency has been wasted on talk for so long!

100.3has always sounded good. Pirkle really concentrated on sounding good.

I'm beginning to wonder if Q is actually moving to 100.3 or if something else is in store. The TV news story, the FCC letters, and the info on website registrations. It all seems way to obvious (especially for a long stunt mode like they're doing now.) I wonder if it's all been a big fake out? Still, country makes the most sense, especially given that Journal is paying big bucks for Mike Hammond. It doesn't make much sense for him to be relegated to the 93.1 peashooter signal. Anyway, I'm hoping it'll be Q100, as rumoured.
