No Kidding: Sex Offender Scheduled For Live Broadcast On WKID

WKID (96.7 FM), the local Part 15 radio station, for children and by children, is scheduled to host a live broadcast this weekend, in which a man bound to a wheelchair will attempt to break the Guinness World Record for longest "wheelie."

Oh yeah, the man also happens to be a registered sex offender - much to the chagrin of WKID's owner. Yet Thomas Edward Lynch didn't think it was all that important, as he was quoted as saying that it was "something that's not in the back of my mind... My thing is concentrating on setting my Guinness World Record and going from there."

Interestingly, there is a loophole that does allow Lynch to be within close proximity of the young fans who would watch him break the "wheelie" record.

I believe the user "wkid967" is the owner of WKID and lurks here often. Wonder if he can comment on this.
 
Whoever is the owner of the station obviously doesn't know how to control one. Why are you actually going to get some sex offender just to do your radio show? Thats like letting a terrorist get out of jail. Very stupid.
 
I have to agree that this is not a good situation, but since technically it is legal (according to the Pinellas county Sheriff's department; they sheriff can't stop him, now that city of Safety Harbor could stop it. Sounds as though they are following the letter of the law, but not the spirit of the law.

I'm guessing that if this goes through, there will be plenty of people, maybe even a policeman or two watching just to make sure that the law is followed and no "funny business" takes place and no direct contact with any children.

Next thing you know, we'll be having billionaires who "earned" their money unethically (fraud and/or gambling on the misfortune of others), from both parties running for governor!?!

I think some of you folks just like being outraged... the dude is a cripple. Do you even know what spina bifida is? While some folks with spina bifida are able to walk, it's not likely that this guy does if he's going for the Guinness "wheelie record"... come on, what's he supposed to do, rape a kid from his chair in front of a crowd of people? They've also had Bubba the Love Sponge on their station, you folks probably complained then too, right? If this event goes forward and any kids are harmed, I'll eat my hat... but that's not going to happen, this story is ridiculous... next...
 
IMHO..I am sorry this guy is wheel-chail bound..and I am impressed that he is using his disability/condition as a springboard to do something that on the surface seems positive.

However I find it distressing that he never "mentioned" that he was a registered sex offender. This is a serious offence, and should certainly be considered as a major source of bad press for WKAD's people. Once that info has been devulged it should be automatic that there be NO association.

So maybe he isn't going to "do" anything..but he is a disturbed mind, and should be avoided for his indiscretion. I will be very dissapointed to see this event be supported by the kid's station.
 
Hello everyone, sorry it took so long to get on here and tell everyone what happened. Earlier this year we did a fundraiser for 14 year old Brock Cardullo with cystic Fibrosis and raised over 3,000.00 to help pay his medical bills. We were contacted by Tommy Lynch about his World Record attempt and he suggested that we come down there to do a live broadcast at his event, so we suggested that he try to make it a fundraising event also to raise money helping kids in the TampaBay area with life threatening illnesses like Brock. We told him we would be glad to do the event with him if he agreed to do this event as a fundraiser, not knowing about his past. On Tuesday 8/10 we received a phone call from the St.Pete Times informing us that Tommy Lynch was convicted in 1997 of sexual assult of a 17 year old boy. We were all in shock! So after making some phone calls to everyone to see what they were going to do and taking a vote here at the station, we decided that we couldn't let Brock down, "We really wanted to help Brock" The story printed Thursday that we were going to do the event anyways to help Brock. Thursday night we got more bad news, Tommy Lynch a level 3 sex offender had more convictions in his past from 1992 to 1997 involving many children from 5 years old to 16 years old. THAT MADE US SICK!!!! I don't even want to go into details. We are here to help kids so we made many phone calls including Brock informing them that we will not be doing this event, after informing them we are backing out they followed us and backed out too. We promised Brock that we will do another fundraising event this year for him, "possably a car show" We do many fundraisers and dances for handicap kids and kids with lifetreatening illnesses free of charge. Adam, thanks for your input, and sorry that the event didn't go as planned. I am sure you were all taken aback by the additional convictions of this "wheelie king" prior to the original one from 1997 that was reported last week. With that said, I am sure something else will be organized to help young Brock in due time.

We noticed Wheelie king has changed his Myspace site several times since his secret got out. He has taken all of the young boys off of his site and changed his name. " He must have a secret myspace page somewhere"

My question is why doesn't he just get with the times and dump Myspace for Facebook, like everyone else has?
