No KISS, no Jam'n 94.5 at Billboard R & B/Hip-Hop Conference

With WILD gone, it would've been nice for Jam'n or Kiss to show up at the Billboard R & B / Hip-Hop Conference in Atlanta this week. Stations from all around the U.S. were represented. Yes, there were Boston people there, but what about our stations?

Held at the Renaissance Waverly Hotel there was free lunch from WEA with a performance from Ron Artest.

Ludacris was there, Chuck D and Public Enemy.

Weather was perfect and Atlanta is always fun.

A Ron Artest performance? What did he do? Slug a fat slob wearing a Pistons' jersey?

Artest was OK. He wasn't dreadful and he wasn't great. It was a professional show that was amusing because of his status in the sports world. Warner Brothers paid for lunch, and the lunch was excellent! All sorts of fancy sandwiches on multiple grills.

I'm sorry I missed Public Enemy, one of my favorites. The "Awards" show was Friday night but at that point a conference can be pretty draning...not to mention a 3 hour wait at the airport...and ridiculous "Terror Alert" warnings (it was Orange) - "Welcome To The Terrordome" indeed.

It would have been nice to have a Boston radio presence instead of just a Boston area Hip-Hop label presence.

As stated, the show sadly lacked real R & B, but since we are co-sponsoring again next year, we're talking about bringing some legendary R & B acts down to Atlanta. We were the only labels to have both new modern rock and hip-hop - it really was pretty hardcore rap / hip-hop this year.

Even WERS or some college stations who play the music should've made the effort to represent the airwaves of this city. Maybe in 2007. Unless WBCN picks up the slack and goes all Public Enemy all the time.

Clear Channel is not budgeting money for it's stations to go to any conference other than there own PD conference in Atlanta every year. Thus the lack of presence from Jamin' and Kiss.

Well, it's ridiculous to be a major station in a major market and miss a major event that other cities participate in.

Just like ASCAP having a marginal presence at the event, SESAC having a BIG presence, and BMI posting their party (in BUCKHEAD, 15 minutes from the conference) only on the BMI site and having NO promotion for their party AT the convention. Not that BMI cares, y'see with the 80 million or so they extorted from nightclubs and the 800 million they pulled in this year, a new record, it is obvious that they are all about collecting money - not serving their 300,000 writers.

If you knew anything about rap, you'd know that the south is over in about 80 days.

Don't try to be a credible sourse when t comes to hip-hop

Well, "Brooklyndon" is it now?

the "banned" one writes:
"Don't try to be a credible sourse when t comes to hip-hop"

Response:
The word is actually spelt: SOURCE! True to form - your "typewriter" is still giving you trouble, isn't it?

You can go to the library and read my review of Hip-Hop in an international book. It's 24.95 at Barnes & Noble.

I do have a good idea of what you look like and you weren't at the conference. Nor did I see you at the
Mass. Hip-Hop Awards at the Hancock a few months ago.

We know it is tough that you got fired from a rock station and that your predecessor got a real job before you did, but that's life. If it makes you feel good about yourself to attack someone actually in the industry - go for it. I've been known to give to charity and you certainly are in need.
