No more 24/7 Hip Hop/R&B in SA and/or Austin

I noticed The Beat in Austin has been slowly getting away from the pure Hip Hop/R&B format. As of late, they seem more Top 40 Rhythmic than Hip Hop/R&B, very similar to The Beat in SA.

To be honest that station has NEVER been a pure Hip Hop station. You can say you are all day but the playlist tells the real story.

Just saying...

Maybe someone will make a hip-hop station. It's not impossible.

Agree. But the playlist has changed since it relaunched on 102.3.

of course its changed...

the hip hop landscape in austin has changed. When it launched, it had a direct competitor.

When Hot went away, it allowed The Beat to open itself up to a wider audience.

radio 101. geez.

there no money hip hop anymore i notice alot of stations in the united states doing the same more money in top 40 format in 2011

This has zero to do with a direct competitor. It's more on the lines with what blazin2009 posted.

thats not true.

The station was only on about a year before it went more mainstream. you act like there was a revenue overhall on the hip hop format in that one quick year.

The Beat came in to cut down Hot and protect Kiss. The Beat was trying to "out" hip hp them. When HOT went away, it allowed the Beat to become a wider station. and in turn, make a little money. But that wasnt the intent on launching it.

if it was, it would have started more mainstream.

A lot of hip-hop stations are leaning towards Dance and away from hip-hop now. I hope the radios don't sound like a gay dance party by 2012.

Wow, that's one way of showing how narrow minded one is.

Allow me to clarify my last post.... I have always seen them as a top 40 station and never the "hip hop" station they claim to be.

With all due respect KevanGC... I know you are a young guy and honestly I do not know if you have made your way into the industry (or even if you want to one day for that matter) You are certainly entitled to your opinion which you have expressed on here and also on twitter. (I too and very opinionated) However, you display a blatant lack of respect. It is obvious you have a very passionate interest in radio and that is just great! But if you ever want to get into radio (if you have not already) it makes for bad form to go and publicly bash on stations, jocks, or even in this case a format.

There is an old radio saying that says "Always watch what you say, cause you never know who you will work for one day"

If radio is what you want to do well then I encourage you. But when you say things as such it will make people think twice before hiring you. Just ask the guy who bashes on competing stations then gets laid off and attempts to apply for a job at the station he publicly bashed on. If radio is not what you want to do then.... if that is you wish to publicly display yourself then bash away.

Not trying to attack you, just trying to help you out. =)

Wow. This is 2012 and some people are still offended by anything gay on the radio. I'll let you in on a secret. There are probably some gay artists passing for straight. I hope that doesn't turn you off to radio altogether.

Yep, you're right. I have nothing against anybody. If you're gay or straight, doesn't matter to me.

The thing is, some of the music on The Beat is cool but some of it (S&M by Rihanna for example) just gets on my nerves.

Sorry if I offended anyone on my last post. I meant to remove it but this borad apparently doesn't allow such things.

Yes not being able to remove a post is a huge flaw on this board but hey... what can you do? After you post radio-info gives you roughly 30 minutes to make changes.

Another thing, radio companies do not like to take chances on questionable music content. That is why you see more and more "Hip Hop" stations turning into top 40. Top 40 is a hell of a lot easier to sell than a Hip Hop station. Do not forget, radio companies main goal is to make money. Not entertain the city.

Sorry for those that like Lady Gaga, but I just can't stand most of her songs.
