No Sale Looming, ESPN 98.7 expected to pivot to Music

I think it is safe to assume at this point that the majority of posters here will complain about what is heard on 98.7 later this month.

I have a strong lead on what that will be and the logic behind it is sound, which means people will really find reasons to complain :)
Lemme guess. Someone found a treasure trove of airchecks from the 1960's in a 1440 Broadway sub-basement. WOR-FM is returning!! :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::eek:

Will we complain in Spanish or English? 😂

Or maybe newer ones and either OR-FM or 99X will be returning instead ...

The "Christian" way of looking at that is the smarmy cliche "Hate the sin, love the sinner." But the bottom line is that they're still being judgmental: You're a sinner for either doing sex the "wrong" way or not buying into the Jesus story.
I don't have a lot of problems with them having their religious philosophy/bigotry IFF ("If and Only If", for you non-engineering folks) they can justify it from the chapter and verse of their bible, i.e. the New Testament, or Bible, Version 2.0.

But if anyone wants to justify their prejudices based on their ignorant misreading of my people's bible ("Version 1.0", aka the Tanach, or as Christians call it, the "Old Testament"), then we need to have some serious conversations. Because I'm ready to pull their license to use it at all, since we're the people who own the perpetual copyright on that bible. I don't care how many Saint James versions are in print, It Ain't Your Book.

That should set a few heads on fire.

Even then, they conveniently ignore the passages in the New Testament which tell them not to use the Bible in that way:
2 Peter 1:20, 2 Peter 3:15-16, and Matthew 23:13-39.

Now that I have made my contribution to this off-topic sidetrack, I will keep quiet until we return to the main topic.

Yeah, sorry about that tangent, but it's been one I've been itching to take for a very long time. Even realizing a radio message board isn't the optimum venue.

It reflects the kind of programming VCY puts forth which, in my opinion, is quite hateful. Definitely not a "live and let live" operation.

I wonder how many in here and the other forums have ever listened to VCY for more than a few minutes.

I don't think they have ever or would currently describe their operation or programming philosophy as "live and let live".

VCY is after all a conservative (theologically), evangelical organization. Being evangelical by definition means you want to spread the hope and good news of your beliefs and convictions... or evangelize.

But... that does not mean that it is necessarily "hateful". Disagreement is not equal to hate.

Additionally, I would offer that if one believed that someone else was on the path to destruction, which is certainly the narrative of the New Testament, and said nothing to change that direction when they had the opportunity, that would actually be lacking in concern for one's neighbor. Some might even say hate.

I was not trying to start religious flame war with my original comment. But it has always struck me odd that VCY seems to attract so many disparaging remarks compared to other groups that have much of the same programming, some of those groups are even substantially larger in terms of audience or number of stations. Most of VCY's programming is not even remotely political.

I was in a VCY market earlier this week and listened for a good while. They have a couple of in house shows, but most of the lineup is older music, short features, and other third party ministry programs. Most of those other ministry programs are available in nearly every market and in some markets on multiple outlets.

Speaking broadly.... as I scan the dial often, its not hard to find things you might disagrees with or are offended by. This is true for me when I am listening to public radio, conservative talk, morning shows, sports talk shows, etc. even a lot of the ads. I don't even agree with every minute of the 168 hours of the programming my employer broadcasts each week. I suspect that is true for nearly everyone in radio and I don't think it is doing anyone a service to immediately jump to assuming they are acting in bad faith or being hateful because of a disagreement with a comment or point of view.

I don't want this thread to be shut down and this is not the right thread or venue for a theological discussion, but respectfully, I do not believe those passages are applicable in the way you seem to be using them regarding VCY making truth claims or taking any moral positions.

I don't want this thread to be shut down, either, nor do I want it to become personal or overly wrapped up in personalities so I'll just point to my signature line: "Your beliefs should not make other people suffer." (where "your" is generic)

Will it be a music format?
