No Sale Looming, ESPN 98.7 expected to pivot to Music

Isn't Emmis's game plan to sell off all their radio stations? Hopefully they're smart enough to lower the price if so.
Go to Indianapolis and explain that to the shareholders. They're the only ones who could authorize Jeff Smulyan to lower it.

All those asking for alternative - this station is sprinkling in a lot of the more broad appeal tunes from alt.

Temporary format, don’t get your hopes up this does anything to the format’s hopes in your city though.

That playlist ought to get every 55+ male in NYC and vicinity eliminating 98.7 from their presets by Monday night.
A good stunt does that ... gets rid of the existing and unwanted previous audience.

Although regular listeners should have already changed their preset to 880 by now. They were given plenty of advance notice.

I slept through the Midnight changeover. Just as I expected, it was an uneventful, less-than-clean break.

TJ 98.7? Not my kind of music, but it's a fresh sounding mix. Interesting choice for what's supposed to be a temporary format.

We'll find out more come Tuesday, I'm sure.

But they need to fix that TOH legal ID. It's missing an "‐FM" suffix.

And during this temporary phase, how is this station handling its public affairs requirements?

I’m surprised they’re paying for a morning show, if that is indeed what they’ll be doing come Tuesday. I thought this would be a bare bones operation.

Judging by the first hour, it doesn’t look bad at all. It’s definitely less rhythmic than WNEW. If they set up a stream (wouldn’t be surprised if they don’t or geofence it to the NYC MSA), I’ll give it a listen when I get back from vacation Monday.

Question is, what happens after Labour Day?
Have you noticed the past umpteen or so entries in this 37-page thread? The speculation is some sort of young female-leaning mainstream pop format as a placeholder until a buyer emerges, perhaps with a personality known to New York pop radio listeners providing air talent. But again, patience, patience. Nobody's leaking anything about the format, and really, as a placeholder meant to keep the transmitter warm, it's astounding that anyone should care about it.
