It can happen here . Are the people of Norfolk ready for this ? Are the T.V.'s and Radio stations in Norfolk area ready to give out information how to get out of this storm ? Just like New Orleans , Norfolk is surrounded with bands of water (ocean ) Just like New Orleans , Norfolk VA Population is mostly people of color and just like New Orleans the government might wait a few days before they come in to help out . I hope this ( storm ) will never happen here ( or anywhere ) but I think it can happen here . <P ID="signature">______________

Ed, I think they are better prepared in the Hampton Roads area for a major hurricane. They have evacuation routes ready for use to get EVERYONE out of there. Lots of public transportation resources. People down there also know better than to wait for a mandatory order, they will leave before that hits. Most everyone down there knows well what a major strike can do! All else fails, nags head is just 90 minutes away and they get slammed most of the time there is a atlantic hurricane.

Norfolk is also above sea level . I don't believe it is surrounded by refineries and not as densily packed.
> Tampa Bay is also a prime target for a huge mess, except it too is not below sea level,as poor as New Orleans, as densily packed, nor surrounded by refineries. The pundits say New Orleans has become a third world county. Believe me, parts of it were there before the storm. It is a total disgrace that our country , the so-called richest in the world, needs to beg for help from Europe, a continent that took the Marshall Plan to rebuild.
I think the Mayor of New Orleans could be just what the Democratic Party needs in the next election. He is one Democrat who says what he thinks. I also have new respect for Kenye West. We need more celebrities who are not afraid to speak out.
I just can't take Willie Nelson singing City of New Orleans out of my CD player. I wish I could find the Arlo Guthrie version too.

Where is Franklin Roosevelt, our nation turns its hungry eyes to you. ( or Huey Long)

The people in New Orlenas live in a bowl.
