Notre Dame football on Philadelphia Radio

Good afternoon. I'm extremely disappointed that the Notre Dame football game Vs Georgia tech didn't get aired on Philadelphia radio. Yes I know that it was on WCAU-TV and streaming audio of the game on http://www.westwoodone.com . But every ND football game needs to be aired on Philadelphia radio on one of the metro signal stations in the city because it should be a second option in case someone can't watch the game on TV or listen on the internet and people still listen to radio in this town. I hope the PD's of all the radio stations in town are reading this message because this should not happen and every Notre Dame football game should be broadcast in this market and every national and local play by play sports broadcasts needs to be heard on the Philadelphia metro radio stations and not on some suburban station in this region and not be skipped.

Julius. Why in the world would a Philadelphia station carry a team that is half way across the country. If anything they would carry Penn State, or have a national game of the week with different teams every week. Plus Notre Dame football is on TV every week, I don't think it would get any ratings on the radio. This is Pennsylvania not Indiana.

aren't we already going to have 1 OVER-RATED football team slammed down our throats each weekend (Eagles) on the radio? why do we need a second?and why are you complaining about Notre Dame? tell me where i can find LaSalle football on the radio? shouldn't you care about the LOCAL teams first?

Explain to me, why does every other major radio market air the Westwood One broadcast every week and not Philly and should the other radio markets stop airing national play by play sports on the radio?

Philly as a market does not care about college football except of Penn State. Julius you need to understand the business of radio before making comments like this. There are x amount of stations and those X amount stations program things to fit their needs. Notre Dame football isnt one of them. They havent gone to a national championship since Lou Holtz. Who cares about the Irish? Im a Miami fan and im not moaning about not hearing the game, thats why i have satellite radio. If you want to hear the game pay for it like everyone else.

There you go again Julius with that unchecked assumption that everyother market does it except Philly, to prove some point about Philly. Just like with 60 minutes, nascar rain delays races, and the other things you think every market does, your wrong. Lets take a look at just the top 20 markets, as listed on this board for example.

NYC: YES
LA: NO
Chicago: YES
San Francisco: NO
Dallas-Fort Worth: NO
Houston: NO
Philadelphia: NO
Washington/Baltimore: NO
Atlanta: YES
Detroit: YES
Boston: YES
Miami-Ft. Lauderdale: NO
Puerto Rico: NO
Seattle-Tacoma: NO
Phoenix: YES
Minneapolis-St. Paul: YES
San Diego: NO
Nassau-Suffolk/Long Island: NO
Tampa: NO
St. Louis: YES

Hmmm, counting Philly, it appears 12 out of the 20 biggest markets don't air any ND games(and lets be fair here, some of those markets are 2 markets in one), and even the ones that do don't necessarily air all of them. SO lets ee, only 8 of the top 20 markets air any ND games. Hmmm I guess Philly is in the majority, and not the only one that doesn't. Ofcoarse I didn't bother to look up if any rimshot stations reach those markets. Afterall, if it isn't good enough for Philly, then it can't be good enough for other markets. So do us all a favor, and in the future before you throw out the everyother market does/doesn't do it, please confirm so.

Also, as mentioned above, Philly isn't a college sports city. Even 610/950 almost never talk about it, because there isn't enough interest.

920 out of Trenton and 660 out of new york carries there games and I think in most places around Philadelphia you can get both of those stations.

This is a bad sign, but I actually agree with Julius about Notre Dame. I get to see part of the game on TV, but am out of the house for much of the 3rd and most of the 4th quarter. Radio is a nice option.

WIP, WFIL and WZZD have carried the game in the past. Apart from WIP however, the stations have night time signal issues. So I choose WFAN to be my station. It does work, but the interference is horrible

All of the above said, it doesn't matter this season. Without a quarterback, even I won't be listening or viewing after a few weeks. And that is the rub. Note Dame has had mediocre teams this century, with the exception of last year. That is why radio coverage has dropped. They nearly lost their tv contract. So if Delaware Valley stations have local options, they will and should go with them rather than a national team going nowhere.

Notre Dame??? Explain to me how I live in Chester County and I can't get the Penn State games on the radio!!! Who cares about Notre Dame, they don't have to deal with not having a game on regular TV because of the Big Ten Network!

The Penn State game aired on 990 AM yesterday.

There are enough Irish decendants in this area (and, in fact, in ANY area) that would justify having ND Footballon in this market. I know people who are Irish, with NO kids in that college, who listen to Notre Dame football just for the ties (albeit in theory/name only) to the Emerald Isle. I would have checked 560 WFIL. The overlap on WNTP, if any, would have caused the game to be bumped to WFIL. If there wasnt enough of a demand nationwide, why would ND have a deal with Westwood One (and NBC for the TV side)???

What do we have, 40 or 50 high schools around here, most with a football team? Can't wait for WXTU to air the Camden Catholic v. Delran contest while B101 does play by play for the C.B. West / Hatboro Horsham game.

[EDIT]

[EDIT-inflammatory]

Not only is Penn State on 990, it's on 1290. There are plenty of places to hear Penn State, and it's on tv in most towns around here.

Re: Notre Dame football on Philadelphia Radio - This Saturday!

To make Julius happy, the entire Penn State radio network will broadcast the Notre Dame football game this Saturday evening!

Because the game was on The Big Ten network a channel that comcast doesn't have. I would complain to comcast and ask that this channel be added ASAP.

Complain away!!! I would love to get the BTN on comcast, but it's not happening anytime soon. Plenty of articles online about this impasse.

uh here's why.......... Notre Dame sucks!........Charlie is over rated as a coach, and who really cares. you got a better program over at Rutgers. lets face it, it's "feild goal jesus" now.........who cares?

But wait, Julius doesn't just was the ND games, he wants the westwood one broadcast of the games too. So he probably won't be happy this week.
