NOV. PPM RATINGS - V-103 GOES UP, WNNX GOES DOWN

A few of you have amazingly short memories. 99X was only getting about a 1.5 share when it was on a 100 kW signal!!!! Upgrading that brand to the 100.5 signal would be a foolish idea. As a whole, the Alternative format is languishing nationwide, and it hasn't performed well in Atlanta in years.

Personally, I think the 100.5 signal should've been LMA'd to 680 The Fan long before 93.7 came online.

A Jack-style Variety Hits format is another concept that might work, as long as there is enough variation in the playlist to distinguish the station from The River.

That was back when Star 94 was playing a lot of alternative-leaning currents though - plus Rock 100.5 only has a 1.5 now, and it's trending down, so they'd really have nothing to lose (and would save a LOT of money since all they'd have to do is simulcast the HD2 broadcast)

And 106.7. 106.7 has now gone well into the 80s with the likes of Tears for Fears, MiJac, and John Mellencamp.

93.7 is probably good enough for The Fan right now. I doubt that sportstalk is enough of a draw to flip 100.5, with 100.5 having TRG in the AM and already having simulcasts of the Bravos.

100.5's biggest challenge right now is trying to find the AOR "sweet spot". Is it classic rock, 80s heritage rock, 90s alt too hard for AAA, or some finessed combination? Project has current ("active") rock that is probably off limits for 100.5, and Dave has AAA, [email protected] has some 90s alt, and River has classic hits (essentially shallow-cut soft classic AOR).

That leaves harder/deeper classic rock, a lot of 80s heritage rock (I'm not talking hair bands necessarily) except for the biggest hits that River picks up, and what would best be described as "90s classic alt hits". That's not a bad combination, but the challenge is what is the optimum mix of those subgenres, and what songs test well and what songs don't. It might be worth it for 100.5 to take the same approach as the River (narrow playlist, burn the songs, and then freshen periodically and aggressively with new test results), but with a harder/deeper/newer mix.

The obvious challenge to that is who wants to hear the Doors/CCR and Nirvana/Pearl Jam on the same station?

Wouldn't a KBIG or KPKX style format be better?

In Phoenix, yes. In Atlanta, no.

(Sorry to switch up topics lol)

Just thought that Dave-FM should really get a lot of credit/recognition, since it's now gotta be one of the highest-rated Triple A's in the country - and probably one of the only Triple A's in the nation beating its Hot AC

EDIT: Dave-FM is the SECOND most successful Triple A station in the nation (next to KBCO/Denver)!!!

Yup, Dave FM explodes every fall then slips back again in the new year. Hint: Falcons cume.

^Oh yeah - lol I should've said Dave-FM was one of the "luckiest" Triple A's in the country I guess - I think the 3.1 it had in June is still really high for a AAA station though

On the other hand, the ratings are the ratings. If other AAA stations want to add football, they could!

I know the airstaff at Dave FM cringes anytime carrying the Falcons comes up.
