Now For The Latest News On WDXX/WHBB Selma

To make a long story short, WDXX has been broadcasting both the Auburn and Alabama Sports Network, for many years now.

Now that Dixie is moving, who will become Selma's new home for the Auburn Sports Network?

That's all I was wondering.

I take it college sports isn't divided up by market or signal boundaries, then? When I lived in Mississippi, the FM dial was full of football on fall weekends, with the same game available on two or sometimes three viable signals depending on where in the state I was.

I can't imagine the WDXX signal being adequate for Bama football in Montgomery proper.

too bad bluewater couldn't have snagged the alabama football rights for bama country, that would have been a huge financial win for that station.
 
It's now being reported on Montgomery TV and Radio that WDXX will get new calls once they make their move.

Is there any truth to that?

Just when things couldn't get any stranger for WDXX, I find this: http://cdbs.recnet.net:8080/fmq.php?facid=27455  Look at the bottom entry to the left and see it for yourself.  This whole move still makes no sense to me.  I can't seem to figure it out.

Glad to report that I can now get ALEX FM, on my cheap battery operated radio, with no bleeding issues from WDXX.  That issue has now been resolved.  Noticed the fix today.  Hope it will stay that way for a long time to come.

P.S. If the link doesn't appear for you, the crux of the matter is that WDXX is trying to decrease their power to around 40,500 watts.

I think the college will get the permit.

I just don’t see the Seventh Day Adventist Church getting it.

Christian radio already has a strong presence in that area of Alabama too. (Anniston/Jacksonville)

This whole move for WDXX still makes no sense to me. 

I'm already detesting it anyway.

P.S. The cows are still looking for some food to eat in Lowndes County.  The drought is ongoing and it looks like things are not going to improve anytime soon.
 
I noticed on the rec.net link that R.D.P. posted, under callsign history i see WDXX and WTUN

is WTUN their new call letters or was that the original calls?
 
WHBB was their first set of calls.
WTUN was their second set of calls.
WDXX is still their current ones.

side note, drove down I-85 this morning and noticed an electronic Billlboard on top of the building where the new WDXX studios will be, sign says the "new 100.1 coming soon"
 
Now for some more news on WDXX reducing to 40,500 watts of power.

D., for once I think RECnet is wrong on WDXX's listing.  The granted construction permit they list says 01/20/2012, and the application for 40.5 kW says accepted for filing on 07/25/2012.  But at the FCC site, that app for 40.5 kW was *granted* just two days later, on 07/27/2012.  In other words, the 40.5 kW application that RECnet shows is actually the permit active at the FCC.  The FCC actually lists *another* app that's newer than anything on RECnet's site: It was accepted for filing just today, 07/30/2012.  That application is asking to go back to 50 kW from the new site.

I think the reason for the power changes is because the applications for the new station in Anniston are using the 73.215 short spacing requirements.  In other words, they are technically too close to fit but by invoking that section 73.215 clause they are going to be willing to accept any extra interference from existing stations.  That means WDXX can maximize it's power output as it originally planned.  At least that's my guess.  There was no explanation on the 40.5 kW or the new 50 kW app as to why exactly they were doing what they did.  As far as I can tell, none of it was even necessary!

Also, WDXX has already filed a license to cover from their new site, with 40.5 kW, so their Montgomery coverage may have already improved.

The reason your bleeding issue was resolved is they're already broadcasting from their new site east of Selma. I guess you're not so close as to be overloaded by them anymore.

Just to bring everyone up to speed on what RDP mentioned earlier about the decrease in power, that request was granted and they've already signed on with that lower power, 40.5 kW, according to the FCC. There's a new app to boost power back to the original 50 kW that was filed on the 27th. I can't imagine it not getting through, so they'll be boosting power shortly.

WDXX is short spaced to a new set of applications in Anniston on the same channel, and those applications are invoking the 73.215 short spacing clause to fit in. The technical details of the application, plus a coverage map, can be found here.

Now for the worst kept secret in town- the Doug Amos & Josh Moon Roundtable will air 7-10a M-Fri. Man, Faulkner must be a great place to work that you can just waltz in to the office around 1015 or 1030 every day. I sure hope that doesn’t become a problem with Doug’s fulltime employer and their board of advisors. Also, interesting piece of info. Look’s like “Montgomery’s 100.1FM” does have Alabama sports. That includes Football, Men’s Basketball (34 games last year), Women’s Basketball (32 games last season) and Baseball (54 games last year). It’s a deal with the devil. Sure, you get Alabama football, but then you are saddled with all the other games that people don’t care about and will tune out. Nice try.

Sports might be their new format after all.

Just saw that the station in Brantley, Al, that was supposed to move and/or be protected by WDXX has filed a "Petition To Deny" Mr. Reynolds new App for 50kw. How interesting. it basically says the DXX doesn't need the increase in power to serve his market - Selma, and the interference caused by the upgrade is not in the public interest.
 
Was in Prattville today.  Had a chance to check them out, at Big Lots on East Main Street.  They were coming in real good at 100.1 FM.  At 99.9 FM, I could hear them some but the winds of Kate was blowing all over them. :D (Just for you Mr. Zach)  100.3 FM couldn't hear them that much.  Brantley wasn't coming in at all.

P.S. This whole move makes no sense to me.  I still detest it.  WDXX would be better served by staying put and leaving things as is. Just my two cents.
 
A poster told me in Montgomery TV and Radio, that WDXX will get their Application and the Brantley petition will be dismissed.

What say you on this? 

I predict a dimiss on Brantley and an Application for WDXX.
