After the three month clause is up, Randy Cook WILL rejoin Spiff Carner as Randy and Spiff on WYAY-FM-True Oldies 106.7!!! The show willa ir from 6AM-10AM Monday thru Friday. Freddie Brooks will start a hot new afternoon show on WYAY-FM from 2-7PM. A large promotional campaign will flood Atlanta with "Randy and Spiff together again with the Oldies on True Oldies 106.7!!!!!".

I heard the same thing yesterday though it's not 100% clear if Freddy will do afternoons or stay on with Randy & Spiff. I'd think it would make more sense to go afternoons for Freddy.
 
yawn........maybe Jimmy Baron can join them in 6 months.... :D
 
I am assuming around October 15 or so, since it was about July 15th when Randy got the pink slip from WGST. CC should let Randy out of the noncompete, like they let Steve Goss out of it when 94.9 flipped (that is how he joined WABE so quickly).

I wonder how they will launch a campaign with an advertising budget of $0.00? Word of mouth has done wonders for True Oldies already (now tied 12+ with The River), so I don't see why they would need to spend more.
 
What great news!!! Just like you predicted. What is your next prediction? Please say Rick and Bubba oust Scott Slade.

BTW, what happened the last two times Randy and Spiff were together? How did those stations fare?
 
Fox 97 was bought by Cox in 2001 and in 2003 they droped the format and fired the talent and replaced it with 97.1 jams and now the River,wich is kind of Oldies,R&S were on 105.7 then they ende up on 94.9 before it went country.

Big difference in ratings. WJZW was #20 (12+), whereas WYAY here in Atlanta is a top 10 station.

True Oldies is going nowhere soon here in Atlanta. It gets monster ratings, and is incredibly cheap to run. 97.1 The River is right behind 106.7, so I don't see the River going out in the short term.

As for those who said oldies don't work...the egg is in their face...at least in Atlanta anyway.
 
Could Citadel afford to get Randy and keep Freddie too?

As far as ratings, the 6+ shares look good, but 50+, where the numbers really are, is not going to make 106.7 one of the market's big billers.

I don't know if I would call it "monster" ratings, but certainly a lot of ratings per dollar spent.

It's amazing how well oldies will do with the right programming--not "good times and eight oldies".

I'm also glad to see the oldies format finally get over its disco and 80s taboos. A lot of people claim to want an oldies station that plays just 50s and 60s, just like they did 20 years ago. Why shouldn't an oldies station move its format up 20 years in order to stay relevant with large radio consumers 20 years later? Don't look now--the 90s will start to be "20 years ago" next year.
 
They're safe. No drama. No offense. Just, safe. I listen to the River just to hear the tongue in cheek cheezy almost promo parody voice of their promo guy. He sounds like someone is "goosing" him

I can guess your TV is locked on Channel 17. Peachtree TV and the River share the same VO guy.

As for oldies stations getting over their fear of the 80's...they had no other choice. If oldies stations stuck with the 50's and 60's...they defenently would not be here today. True Oldies focuses on the 60's and 70's...with early 80's and late 50's material scattered in. As time moves on...it probably will be a mostly 70's and 80's format (where classic hits formats are mostly at the moment).
 
I talked to Randy. GT&GO is full of wild blueberry muffins, as usual, and could torpedo any future deals if he doesn't knock it off.

Seriously dude, a whisper campaign is one thing, but what you're doing isn't helping, or is that your intention?

Wow it is probably a year ago when he made the same claim and Randy had the same issues with him.
