War Of Attrition

If you haven't seen the press release already, here it is: http://www.tribune.com/pressroom/releases/2008/04072008.html

Classic old Jacor. And Tribune keeps hiring radio executives, 4 from Clear Channel in the last week alone. Plus the legendary Lee Abrams and heavy-hitter Randy Michaels leading the charge. Tribune's focus will undoubtedly stay on TV and newspapers, but what about their lone radio outfit? An outfit, I might add, whose staid programming does not mesh with the new corporate culture.

How long until they do something with the aging WGN? The billing is down and the station is no longer in the nation's top-10 club according to BIA's 2007 report. Although they still bill a fortune, they have very high overhead and their audience's age is not going to improve with the current roster of mind-numbingly dull toaster-talk (Did anyone hear the riveting dog show a couple days ago?).

On the other hand, maybe Tribune exits the radio business with a sale to Bonneville, who can simulcast the programming on 100.3.
