Now that the word is out...I'm taking Radioboy's advice

As some of the regular posters know, I was an advertiser on both WTPG and the web stream of Radio Free Ohio. I had actually signed a full-year commitment to Clear Channel Akron/Canton to run spots on the web stream. Of course, it was Clear Channel which didn't hold up its end of the bargain, much to the shock of my account exec.

Now with the new WVKO set to go on the air Monday, I will make the same commitment on ad buys as I did with Radio Free Ohio.

But I am willing to go one step further. I want to sell ad time. So I will be in touch with the appropriate parties to do just that by this coming Monday.

No, I'm not giving up my day job.

But what it does mean, much to the delight of some posters (and you know who you are) is that I won't be on here as much.

The differences I have had with some of the Ohio Majority Radio folks should be ironed out very quickly. But they will know I have an agenda: to prove this format can be profitable. This includes getting away from the need for donations and instead getting listeners to buy from the advertisers who support WVKO. With the help of my former account exec at Radio Free Ohio, Brandon Tidd, my new business websites should be up by the end of this year. The sites will offer a variety of products and services, with a generous percentage of the profits being reinvested in the new station.

To the regulars who have agreed, respectfully disagreed and/or simply tolerated my comments over the past year, thanks for your patience, courtesy and occasional restraint as I've had to deal with (and apparently still have to deal with) other posters whose comments have resulted in their receiving wrath from my keyboard.

Having said that...I do have one conspiracy theory to toss out here as a parting shot to boyphenom and the one person whose self-proclaimed harassment of me is sufficient incentive to make my plans work: Phil Boyce, VP of Talk Radio Programming for Citadel.

Boyce is the man behind Sean Hannity and Mark Levin. He is also PD of WABC in New York, flagship station for Rush Limbaugh and, as of Monday, Don Imus.

When Clear Channel Columbus decided to flip AM 1230, the original plan according to WTVN/WYTS PD Bruce Collins was to move Glenn Beck into Stephanie Miller's slot on the former WTPG.

Beck was replaced on WTVN by Joel Riley, who had been in the slot now occupied by Hannity.

Hannity's move made way for Mark Levin, which numerous sources have said Boyce (much to his denial) and Citadel required be put on stations that carry Hannity.

Now, considering how posters here have discussed just how rinky-dink WTDA's signal is (like that of WYTS), this should give Glenn Beck fans plenty to chew on.

And, believe it or not, I'm rooting for him. It would be a major victory for locally owned radio in Columbus if Glenn Beck and Stephanie Miller become the top morning talkers among Columbus listeners. Of course, it would probably take Hell to freeze over before afternoon talk is dominated by Ed Schultz, Dennis Miller and Chris Spielman...but one can dream, can't he?

The next time you hear from me on this board will probably be when I can hire my former WTPG rep, Jennifer Tonapi, and her band CityFolk for a WVKO Listener Appreciation Party. As for any follow-up comments from those who have called me a whiner (among other things), I will respond as Steph would--in advance:

"Love ya. Mean it. Miss you already."

Merry Christmas
