First off, who the hell is Dan Patrick? The old KBOX jock (Dan McCurdy,) or is it the sportscaster from ESPN, or who? How many times can this name be re-used in broadcasting? Be aware that Dan Patrick does NOT own KSEV...he has a LMA with Liberman. He has essentially purchased the entire broadcast schedule, and provides/produces all the programming. I wonder if this is what is happening with KMGS...newspaper people don't always understand these things. Patrick used to own KSEV along with other investment partners starting in 1988, buyng out the short-lived KTBT. He initially programmed an all-business format, then added Rush Limbaugh in 1989, adding more conservative talk later on. The ownership structure shifted and changed, and was eventually bought out. KSEV was a part of the massive divesitures here during all the consolidation in the late 90's/early 00's, including a sale that was stalled and eventually scuttled due to finance issues. When Liberman finally got ahold of KSEV in 2001, Patrick returned to programming the station.

Dan Patrick was a very popular tv sportscaster in the 80's 90's. Kinda the Dale Hansen of Houston if you will. He also writes an article for a paper their. He got into radio ownership in the 90's and then into politics.Agreed, why do we need another conservative voice on radio.

Actually, you'll find Patrick very entertaining. He's definitely over the top with neocon talk and tends to get a bit too religious at times for my taste, but he's original and has his own original thoughts, not the regurgitated crap you hear in most places. He actually was the spark plug for getting the Texas Legislature to finally address the overly unfair property tax burden in this state. It will be very interesting to see how he affects the Texas Legislature as a real Senator with two talk radio stations in the top two Texas markets. You'll hear it first from me, but this just might spark a nationwide trend to light a fire under our rediculous government's ass to clean up the mess both Dems and Reps have created not only in Texas, but in Washington. The trend is people with good ideas buying into the airwaves to spread their message. You might start seeing some serious demogogery in the future as other would be politicians start buying the airwaves to send a message to the government. I'm fearful of people with bad or dangerous ideas buying these airwaves. I guess that's what the FCC is supposed to protect. We'll see, but look out in the future. As for Patrick, he's entertaining and you may not like his ideas or political tendencies, but he's good for radio. I know him personally and we are friends. It will throw some sparks up there in Dallas.

It appears that 1160 will simulcast with Loanstar/1190 until the change is made. I heard the top of the hour id: and both stations were identified. I was really hoping for something new and exciting with 1160, but I guess that we'll have to wait for another station.
