NPR not immune to money woes...announces widespread cuts

This news doesn't surprise me. Already some NPR affiliates have started to eliminate staff. And don't be shocked if more stations follow suit next fiscal year as well.

Either stations will have to reduce staff or stage more fund raising drives just to keep their heads above water.

I'm sure glad I got out of public radio when I did.

American Public Media, the parent (sister?) of Minnesota Public Radio, has announced it's canceling Weekend America. I think it was a good effort, but perhaps was unable to obtain enough carriage in prime slots in top markets. I also have to admit that the contents of each hour tended to be extremely variable. This is a show that didn't completely commit to either the "NPR" style or the "This American Life" style. Some critics even said it was "All Things Considered Lite."
Other thoughts on this?
