NY Football Giants in Spanish on 1280 AM WADO

I saw in on the Facebook Page for the New York Football Giants that tonight's game is going to be broadcast in Spanish on WADO AM 1280. Is this something new? Is it a one time only thing? Every week they post the game information and it always said the game is going to be on WFAN 660 AM/101.9 FM (or just 880 AM), but never mentioned a Spanish language broadcast of the game.

Why is the NFL suddenly so interested in the Spanish population?

Having the game broadcast in spanish won't make them want to learn the language any faster...this is America right?

Games have been available in Spanish for years on tv (through the SAP button) and radio in some markets. Remember that Puerto Ricans are Americans, and their dominant language is Spanish. Many of them live in New York. The NFL is also popular in some parts of of Mexico. There's a market for it...don't politicise this by making it a language issue. It's an insult to American citizens who happen to be Puerto Rican. There's nothing wrong with having games in a language spoken by a large percentage of the population. There are also people who speak English as a first language who enjoy hearing sports in their second language. George Carlin used to listen to Yankees games in Spanish himself.

The Spanish population is in Spain.

Having the game broadcast in spanish(sic) won't make them want to learn the language any faster...this is America right?

Yes, this is America where there is no official language. As Mimo stated, the area where there is the most interest in American rules football is Puerto Rico, where essentially 100% of the population speaks Spanish and where 100% of the population are American citizens.

You know, don't you, that it is possible to be bilingual and even a polyglot, so using one language does not impede the learning of another.

David, sometimes I listen to one of the Spanish Stations here in Connecticut - in particular when they do a Regaeeton Show and it fascinates me how the DJs can go back and forth between both English and Spanish in the same sentence/conversation.

I know...it's just weird seeing in some places so many spanish language signs right next to or sharing some of the space with the english signs, like in home Depot. when you walk in some places it feels like english is more a third language.
