NY Times: Mike and the Mad Dog to morning drive on WFAN-AM

According to Friday's NY Times:

With Mr. Imus now gone from their lineup, CBS Radio and WFAN were under pressure yesterday to find someone to replace him. At least temporarily, WFAN planned to install “Mike and the Mad Dog,” a sports talk show, in the morning hours that Mr. Imus had occupied, according to a company executive. http://www.nytimes.com/2007/04/13/business/13imus.html

What a novel idea! A sports show in the morning on a sports station, rather than a "current events" talker.

Gee, this is only something they should have done about 17 years ago or whenever WFAN switched over to all-sports.

Can't wait to make the drive into Manhattan Monday morning and hear Yankees/Jets talk instead of listening to old-man Imus rant about whan an idiot Hilary Clinton is.

Dear Mr. 106:

You may not remember this, but WFAN did start with a sports program in the AM drive...but it did so poorly that they then replaced it with.......Imus.
Don't you remember that?

I watched their YES simulcast yesterday, and Mike said that while they were on in morning drive, they would try to do something a bit different from their afternoon sports talk show.

I just want to say that I commend Mike and Chris for standing up for what they believe. They were very brave to openly criticize their bosses for the decisions made about Imus. That is something most people wouldn't do, for fear of losing their jobs.

They devoted the first two hours of their show Friday to the Imus issue. And I agree with something Mike said. He said that it would have been better if Imus had been allowed to return from a two week suspension, and been given a chance to revamp his show, and to use the new show as a platform to make our airwaves more diverse. (I am paraphrasing here).

They also mentioned something else that I found very interesting. While it's true several advertisers pulled their spots from the Imus show, just as many advertisers pulled their spots from WFAN for firing him. So the station is getting screwed no matter what they do.

CBS Radio New York Sumner Redstones Delight and home to The Great American Kneejerk Overreaction! Talk about a slow news week this one took the prize. How long before Sumner sells CBS Radio to some other broadcast group owner? Mike and Mad Dog all the luck in the world to you working for these Spineless Lilly-Livered Yellowbellied Cowards!
