As an aside, GCI has been building out fiber infrastructure to the Aleutians via the GCI Alaska United (AU) Aleutians Fiber Project. "It's an 800-mile subsea fiber-optic cable project connecting remote communities in the Aleutian Chain, Alaska Peninsula, and Kodiak Island to high-speed internet." "Unalaska was connected in in 2022. Sand Point and King Cove were connected in 2023 and 2024". Other POPs are being built out.
