NYDN: WPIX/Ch. 11 axes boss Betty Ellen Berlamino and veteran anchor Jim Watkins

It looks like the new regime at Tribune is already starting to make their mark. Read more about this story: http://www.nydailynews.com/entertai...06-08_more_news_at_11_pix_nixes_its_prez.html

Personally, I like Jim Watkins and I hope the station decides to keep him.

On the other hand, I've been getting the feeling that the new regime at Tribune has been turning WPIX's news department into a lighter version of what we see (or, in my case, choose not to see) on the Fox stations -- more style and diminishing substance. The cash-grab stunt during the May sweeps was pretty obvious.

If I were a betting man, I'd be the least surprised to see Larry Mendte become Kaity Tong's co-anchor once he's off probation.

From what I've noticed during Berlamino's tenure, there goes any continuing acknowledgment of the station's heritage. Didn't the Yule Log come back on the air under her, not to mention an annual Chiller Theater? Their 60th anniversary broadcast was as top notch as possible, given that previous regimes had all but emptied their archives into a dumpster somewhere.

WPIX has a heritage - it was nice seeing them celebrate it. Hope they continue, but I'm not betting on it.
