I just heard from a cousin of Jacqueline's about this. Courtney had been treated for melanoma earlier this year, which later spread to her lung. Even with chemo treatment, it wasn't enough. She passed away Dec. 20.
Courtney was one of the original cast of Another World when it debuted in May 1964, and was the last of the originals to have appeared on the show, in June 1989. Her 'Alice' character had returned to Bay City for the funeral of 'Mac', another major character on the show. Courtney's final scene came as she was consoling 'Rachel' (Victoria Wyndham), Mac's widow, outside the chapel. They were both long-time parts of a Steve/Alice/Rachel triangle which spanned the late 1960s to the mid-1970s (Wyndham's part of it being from 1972 on); the triangle was originally conceived by Agnes Nixon, during her stint at AW as headwriter. Courtney's last AW scene, starting at 4:15: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-BVQINlFYjo
During the 50 Years of Soaps special from 1994, an AW clip was shown from 1975, of a Steve/Alice scene. After the clip was played, George Reinholt (Steve) and Courtney came out on stage to be 'reunited', and it was all too brief. This was likely Jacqueline Courtney's final public appearance: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KIrnuVEgP3A
Courtney had pretty much left acting behind after a 1987 role on Loving. She spent many of her last years as a caregiver for her mother, who had battled Alzheimer's.
