Obit: James 'Jimmy' Callahan, 76; played grandfather on TV's 'Charles in Charge'

James T. "Jimmy" Callahan, an actor best known for playing the cranky grandfather on television's "Charles in Charge," has died. He was 76.

On the show, Callahan played Walter Powell, a retired Navy man he referred to as the "blustery old grandfather" in a 2000 People magazine interview. When CBS canceled "Charles in Charge" after one season, Callahan joined the cast for the syndicated version, which ran from 1987 to 1990.

He was also in the Little House On The Prairie movie Look Back To Yesterday where we played
the doctor who diagnosed Albert Ingall's rare and fatal blood disease.

And he got to work with Nicole Eggert on "Charles". Rest in peace, Grandpa. ;D

Also supporting roles on sitcoms Wendy And Me (ABC, 64-65)
and The Governor & J.J. (CBS, 69-70).

Was going to mention the "Wendy And Me" role..He played Danny, the airline pilot playboy friend of Wendy And Tom Conway (Connie Stevens, Ron Harper)..Seeing him in this series and then "Charles in Charge" It's hard to realize they are the same person..Though obviously people age over the years.
