This week, another threesome of celebrity passings (first Billy Mays on Sunday, then Gale Storm) as the death of actor Karl Malden ("Streets of San Francisco," American Express commercials) has just been announced:

"What will you do? What WILL you do?" ;D

R.I.P., Mr. Malden. I loved Streets and got a hoot out of your AE spots...

Malden was a very good Broadway and film actor in the 40s, 50s and 60s - A Streetcar Named Desire in 1951, for which he won an Oscar. Also On the Waterfront, among many others.

As Lt. Mike Stone in Streets of San Francisco he chewed the scenery a little, but he had the chops to get away with it. In my opinion, it was his portrayal of Stone that made the show better than all the other cookie-cutter cop shows of the 70s. It certainly wasn't the writing or the plots, which were typical Quinn Martin material.

Johnny Carson's impersonation of Karl Malden in those American Express spots was hilarious! ;D Especially when he got the pie in the face! He even had the Karl Malden nose! ;D

By the way, we are beyond yet another "threesome," as Fred Travalena died, but wasn't even mentioned in this particular thread.

I've always thought that that "threesome" thing was a myth, anyway! ::)

People like to make sense out of things, and one way to do that is to number similar events...celebrity deaths, floods, plane crashes...whatever. They don't notice when the events stop at 2, and they stop talking about it when it gets up to 4 or 5, like we are now.

There's probably somebody out there who believes in 7s. Heaven forbid - but if we have a couple more celebrity deaths, they'll shout "See - things always happen in sevens."
