Obit: Leavitt J. Pope @ 83; cofounded WPIX, N.Y.'s first independent TV station

Mr. Pope died Wednesday of natural causes at his home...
Mr. Pope spent his career in media. He was a founder of WPIX-TV in 1948...
He worked at the station for 45 years and was president and executive officer from 1975 to 1993. The station became affiliated with the WB in 1995 and is now known as the CW Network, with a signal that covers the New York metropolitan area.
