Obit: Lorene Yarnell dies at 66; half of the Shields and Yarnell

ah, the bygone era of the Summer Replacement Series! Mac Davis, Starland Vocal Band, Pink Lady and Jeff....
Sad to hear of her passing.

Pink Lady and Jeff?! Jeez, what a memory. And they lasted--what, a month?-- before the network yanked the show. I know their numbers were abysmal. I guess American audiences weren't ready for two cute but bland Japanese girls (who, if I recall, spoke no English). The show was certainly a bizarre concept.

But Shields and Yarnell was a very clever and amusing act. I know they were a big hit in Vegas and played their year after year--long after the variety show genre died.

I thought they were very entertaining as well.

TV audiences seem to tune in saying "OK, entertain me" but Vegas audiences come with an "I'm going to be entertained" attitude. That seems why some acts do very well on stage but crash on TV.
